Dickinson State rallies past Providence for road win in Frontier play

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – A strong second-half effort lifted Dickinson State to a 77-67 win over the University of Providence on Sunday afternoon in Frontier Conference action. The win moves the Blue Hawks to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in league play.

After trailing 36-30 at the break, Dickinson State outscored Providence 47-31 in the second half, using a balanced offensive attack and defensive pressure to secure its second conference win of the season.

Cordell Stinson led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Griffyn Doughty added 15 points and five steals. Isaiah Vargas came off the bench to provide a spark, scoring 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting and grabbing six rebounds in just 16 minutes of action.

"I'm proud of our effort today," head coach Derek Selvig said. "It's really hard to come back after a tough loss and get a win on the road. Our guys battled and played together, and we learned a lot about ourselves on this trip."

The Blue Hawks started fast, jumping out to a 10-2 lead early in the first half behind three-pointers from Doughty and Weston Zacher. However, the Argos responded with a 16-5 run and eventually took a 36-30 advantage into the locker room.

Dickinson State turned the game around in the second half with improved shooting and a strong defensive presence. The Blue Hawks shot 55.2 percent from the field and forced nine Providence turnovers after halftime. Doughty and Quincy Linton combined for 16 of DSU's 47 second-half points, and the Blue Hawks held the Argos to just 31 points over the final 20 minutes.

Linton finished with 11 points and four assists, while Zacher added eight points. Jake Daniel contributed a team-high five assists, and Britton Cranston chipped in four points and three rebounds off the bench.

The Blue Hawks forced 18 total turnovers and converted those into 23 points. DSU also won the rebounding battle 35-29 and limited the Argos to just six free throw attempts.
