DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State dropped its first game of the season Saturday afternoon, falling 35-7 to the Carroll College Fighting Saints at the Biesiot Activities Center.
The Blue Hawks (2-1) struggled offensively, managing just 136 total yards and no net rushing yards in the loss.
Carroll (2-1) struck early, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter following a 17-yard touchdown run and a 19-yard scoring pass off a Blue Hawk interception. The Fighting Saints extended their lead to 21-0 before halftime with an eight-yard touchdown run from Henry Gross.
Dickinson State found the end zone in the third quarter when Marcus Sanders capped a 14-play, 80-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown pass to Semaj Clark. Ty Nelson added the extra point to make it 21-7.
Carroll answered quickly in the fourth quarter with touchdown passes from Lincoln Holmes and Huot to put the game out of reach.
Sanders finished 19-of-30 passing for 136 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Clark led DSU with seven receptions for 62 yards. On defense, Wyatt Faircloth, Ethan Hutchison, and Jaymn Medlock each recorded seven tackles. Rustin Medenwald added an interception, and Dylan Dahlgren notched a sack.
Nelson averaged 37.7 yards on six punts, including a long of 50.
