Dickinson State dominates Providence 95–70 in Frontier matchup

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State posted its most efficient offensive performance of the season Saturday night, defeating Providence 95–70 in Frontier Conference play at Scott Gymnasium.

The Blue Hawks (7-16, 5-11 Frontier) shot 60.3 percent from the field and hit 15 three-pointers while placing five players in double figures.

DC Stewart came off the bench to lead all Blue Hawk scorers with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-6 from long range. Isaiah Vargas added 15 points and five rebounds, also connecting on three triples. Quincy Linton and Nate Visentin each chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Weston Zacher added 10 points and five boards in 19 minutes of action.

Dickinson State jumped out early and never trailed, using a 12-2 run in the opening minutes to build a double-digit lead. A three-pointer from Griffyn Doughty extended the advantage to 17-8, and DSU led 54-27 at halftime after shooting 72.4 percent from the floor in the first half.

"Great team effort tonight," head coach Derek Selvig said. "Our offense caught up to our defense which I thought was phenomenal in both games this weekend. Hopeful that we can build off this weekend heading into the home stretch."

The Blue Hawk bench contributed 52 points as Selvig used 13 players in the contest. Britton Cranston scored seven points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Jake Daniel and Cordell Stinson added three and eight points, respectively.

DSU's defense held the Argos (3-19, 3-13) to just 37.1 percent shooting and forced 11 turnovers, converting those into 19 points. The Blue Hawks also recorded nine blocked shots, including five by Visentin, who anchored the paint defensively.

Marvel Chambers Jr. led Providence with 20 points and eight rebounds. Jakub Lloyd added 14 points and five boards, but the Argos were just 3-of-14 from beyond the arc and never seriously challenged in the second half.
