Bellevue pulls away late to top Dickinson State, 79-68

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State battled back from a halftime deficit and tied the game late, but visiting Bellevue closed strong to earn a 79-68 win Friday night in Frontier Conference play at Scott Gymnasium.

The Blue Hawks (5-11, 3-6 Frontier) tied the game at 66-66 with just over three minutes remaining, but Bellevue (14-2, 8-1) scored 13 of the final 15 points to seal the win.

Cordell Stinson led Dickinson State with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and added six rebounds and two steals. Nate Visentin posted 14 points and seven boards, while Detavius Frierson added 12 points and four assists.

After falling behind 66-61, the Blue Hawks got a bucket from Visentin and a layup by Stinson to tie the game at 66 with 3:29 remaining. Bellevue then answered with back-to-back scores from Ahamad Bynum, who finished with a game-high 29 points, and pulled away with free throws in the final minute.

Quincy Linton provided a spark off the bench for DSU, scoring 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Senior Jake Daniel grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and added three points. Frierson also had four rebounds and a steal.

As a team, Dickinson State shot 45.6 percent from the field (26-for-57), but struggled from the free-throw line at 57.9 percent (11-for-19) and committed 14 turnovers. Bellevue capitalized with 18 points off DSU giveaways and shot 51.9 percent from the floor, including 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the line.

The Blue Hawks held a 37-33 rebounding advantage and outscored Bellevue in the paint, 36-34. DSU also got 17 bench points, including six from Weston Zacher and Isaiah Vargas combined.
