DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State sophomore linebacker Brody Jenness was named the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Blue Hawks' 20-19 road victory over No. 23 Dakota State.
Jenness led Dickinson State with eight tackles, including three solo stops and five assisted tackles, as the Blue Hawks improved to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in Frontier Conference East Division play.
The Lewistown, Montana, native also forced a key turnover late in the second quarter. Jenness forced a Trajan Davis fumble that was recovered by Braden Racht at the Dakota State 24-yard line. Dickinson State converted the takeaway into a touchdown five plays later when Hudsen Grovom connected with Gage Gilbert for a 3-yard score, giving the Blue Hawks a 14-7 lead.
Dickinson State later rallied from a 19-14 fourth-quarter deficit, scoring the winning touchdown with 53 seconds remaining before Tre Gary sealed the victory with an interception on Dakota State's final possession.
The award is the first Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Player of the Week honor of Jenness' career.
Dickinson State returns home Saturday to host Rocky Mountain at 1 p.m. at Biesiot Activities Center.
