DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State closed its Frontier Conference home schedule Saturday night with a 91-69 loss to Mayville State at the Scott Gymnasium.
The Comets shot 62.3% from the field and 62.5% from 3-point range (10-of-16) to pull away in the second half after leading 39-34 at the break. Dickinson State finished at 41.7% overall and 25.0% from deep (5-of-20).
Christian Bowen-Webb led all scorers with 33 points for Mayville State, hitting 12-of-20 from the floor and 7-of-10 from 3-point range. Ollie Fell added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting and went 5-of-7 at the free-throw line. Kuon Kuon scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Comets continued to build separation after halftime.
Griffyn Doughty paced Dickinson State with 15 points, knocking down two 3-pointers and going 3-of-4 at the foul line. Cordell Stinson finished with 13 points and six rebounds, and Isaiah Vargas added 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting while drawing six free throws.
Dickinson State scored first on a Nate Visentin basket, but Mayville State settled quickly and answered with efficient interior play and perimeter shooting. The Comets established control early and led throughout, with Bowen-Webb scoring from all three levels and consistently converting on kick-out looks and spot-ups. Dickinson State stayed within reach in the opening half behind Doughty and Stinson, closing to within two late before Mayville State took a five-point edge into intermission.
The game turned in the opening stretch of the second half. Mayville State began the period with a surge that pushed the margin to double figures, then stretched the lead further behind continued 3-point efficiency and high-percentage finishes in the paint. A Jackson Anderson 3-pointer made it 63-44 with 12:16 remaining, and the Comets maintained the cushion the rest of the way.
Dickinson State won the rebounding battle 33-29 and collected 11 offensive rebounds, but Mayville State's shooting and ball security were decisive. The Comets committed eight turnovers while forcing 14, and they produced 15 points off turnovers to Dickinson State's seven. Mayville State also went 15-of-22 at the line, while Dickinson State finished 14-of-20.
Dickinson State used 25 bench points, led by Vargas and DC Stewart's seven, but could not get enough stops as Mayville State shot 67.9% after halftime (19-of-28) and continued to score efficiently against the Blue Hawks' rotations.
Mayville State improved to 9-18 overall and 5-15 in Frontier play. Dickinson State moved to 8-18 overall and 6-14 in conference action.
