DILLON, Mont. – Dickinson State couldn't keep pace in the second half Saturday evening, falling 80-56 to Montana Western in Frontier Conference action at Straugh Gymnasium.
The Blue Hawks (6-16, 4-14 Frontier) trailed by just four at halftime, but a 30-point third quarter by the Bulldogs broke the game open. Montana Western (10-12, 8-10) shot 70.6% from the field in the third, turning a 30-26 edge into a commanding 60-37 lead heading into the final period.
Senior center Brae Eneboe led Dickinson State with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting and went a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line. She also added four rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes. J'Ell Garfield added 10 points and five assists, and Makena Hauge chipped in nine points off the bench.
DSU shot 34.4% from the field and 26.3% from beyond the arc while committing 16 turnovers. The Blue Hawks were outrebounded 35-34 and struggled to convert second-chance opportunities, despite grabbing 11 offensive boards.
Montana Western controlled the interior with a 42-20 advantage in points in the paint and outscored Dickinson State 43-16 in bench production. Bailee Sayler led all scorers with 21 points, while Kyle Pancost added 12 points and nine rebounds. Keke Davis and Tayva Phillips each reached double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Blue Hawks started strong, taking a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, and trailed just 30-26 at the break. Eneboe accounted for 10 of DSU's first-half points and helped the Blue Hawks to a pair of early leads. However, Montana Western's depth and ball pressure began to shift the momentum in the third, capped by a 14-4 stretch that included three-pointers from Sayler and Ava Bellach.
