Dickinson State sweeps Maine Fort Kent in Saturday baseball doubleheader

LEESBURG, Fla. — Dickinson State recorded a doubleheader sweep of Maine Fort Kent on Saturday, winning 16-0 in seven innings in the opener and 14-3 in five innings in the second game.

The Blue Hawks improved to 13-10 on the season while limiting the Bengals to seven total hits across the two games.

Dickinson State combined for 22 hits and 30 runs on the day while receiving complete-game efforts from Mason Lunzman and Tate Williams.

Game 1

Dickinson State broke the opener open early and went on to defeat Maine Fort Kent 16-0 in seven innings.

The Blue Hawks scored two runs in the first inning before adding six runs in the second to take early control. Dickinson State added four runs in the fourth inning and four more in the seventh to complete the run-rule victory.

Luis Rodriguez led the Blue Hawks offensively, finishing 2 for 3 with four runs scored, two RBIs, a triple and two stolen bases. Moses Dokes went 4 for 5 with three RBIs and a double. Wyatt Wilharm added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs while scoring three times.

Jaden Salazar finished with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Kadin Finders contributed a two-run home run in the second inning.

Dickinson State opened the scoring in the first inning when Rodriguez tripled and later scored. Wilharm followed with an RBI double to give the Blue Hawks a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Hawks extended the lead in the second inning. Finders delivered a two-run home run and Dickinson State added four additional runs in the inning to push the lead to 8-0.

Dickinson State added four runs in the fourth inning. Salazar doubled in a run and Dokes drove in another during the inning to extend the advantage.

The Blue Hawks added four more runs in the seventh to close the scoring.

Lunzman earned the win after throwing a complete-game shutout. The left-hander allowed two hits and struck out eight while issuing one walk.

Game 2

Dickinson State completed the sweep with a 14-3 victory in five innings in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Blue Hawks scored nine runs in the first inning and did not trail the rest of the game.

Jaden Salazar led the offense with two hits and three runs scored. Jace Buchanan recorded two hits, including a triple and a double, and drove in one run while scoring twice.

Luis Rodriguez finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the third inning. Jacob McIntyre added a double and drove in two runs. Jadyn Roberts also doubled and recorded an RBI.

Dickinson State opened the game with a nine-run first inning. Buchanan drove in the first run with a triple before Rodriguez followed with an RBI single. The Blue Hawks added additional runs during the inning to build the early advantage.

Maine Fort Kent scored two runs in the third inning, but both were unearned.

Dickinson State responded in the bottom of the inning when Rodriguez hit a three-run home run to extend the lead.

The Blue Hawks added two more runs in the fourth inning to push the lead to 14-2.

Maine Fort Kent scored once in the fifth inning, also unearned, before the game ended after five innings.

Williams earned the win for Dickinson State after throwing a complete game. He allowed five hits and three runs, none earned, while striking out eight and walking two.

Across the doubleheader, Dickinson State pitchers allowed three total runs, all unearned, while striking out 16 batters.
