Blue Hawks spilt on the weekend against Providence

DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State split its Saturday doubleheader with the University of Providence, falling 6–3 in the opener before rallying for an 11–10 walk-off win in Game 2 at the Sanford Sports Complex.

Providence took the first game behind a steady pitching performance from Madison Moultray, who threw a complete game and limited the Blue Hawks to seven hits. DSU tied the game 1–1 in the second when Kiley Hubby delivered a solo home run to left. Providence regained the lead in the third on an unearned run and added another in the fifth on back-to-back doubles from Aleana Aionaaka and Kasidy Yeoman.

Dickinson State evened the score again in the fourth. Allyson Farrington singled, moved to third on a sacrifice from Celina Wilharm, and scored on an RBI single from Brooke Lijewski. But Providence responded with three runs in the seventh, highlighted by a three-run double from Tehneson Ehnes, to take a 6–2 advantage.

The Blue Hawks mounted a late push in the bottom of the seventh. Jersi Morse walked and scored on an RBI double from Jaydin Sabol, but DSU stranded the tying run on base as Providence closed out the win. Reagan King took the loss despite allowing just one walk over seven innings.

In Game 2, Dickinson State erased a 9–0 deficit and completed its largest comeback of the season, scoring 11 runs across the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Providence built its early lead with a run in the first, another in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth. Two home runs from Alix Bishop and a two-run double from Erin Bishop powered the Argos' offense. DSU broke through in the fourth when Emily Madrid, pinch-hitting, launched a two-run homer to center. Baylee Berg added a single, and Jersi Morse drove in another run to cut the deficit to 9–3.

The Blue Hawks surged again in the sixth. After walks to Jessa Duggan and Morse, Viennah Meyer homered to left to bring DSU within 9–7. Madrid followed with her second home run of the game, a two-run shot to center, tying the score 9–9. Berg walked, and Octavia Meyer singled to put runners on the corners before Morse delivered an RBI single to give DSU its first lead at 10–9.

Providence tied the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, but the Blue Hawks answered immediately. Izzy Kelly led off the bottom half with an infield single, and after a fielder's choice, Berg doubled to left to put runners at second and third. Octavia Meyer then singled to right, scoring Emily Madrid for the walk-off win.

Madrid finished Game 2 with two home runs and four RBI, while Berg went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and three runs scored. Morse added two hits and two RBI. Hope Fath earned the win in relief, allowing just one run over the final three innings.

Dickinson State moved to 14–10 on the season with the split.
