MADISON, S.D. — Dickinson State split a Frontier Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Dakota State, earning an 11-0 win in the opener before dropping a 13-9 decision in the nightcap.
Game 1
Dickinson State used a balanced offensive effort and strong pitching to secure an 11-0 win in Game 1.
The Blue Hawks scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Luis Rodriguez and a solo home run from Moses Dokes. They added two more in the third on a two-run home run by Jacob McIntyre and extended the lead to 5-0 on Rodriguez's solo home run in the fourth.
Dickinson State continued to add on late, including solo home runs from Jadyn Roberts and Ty Farwell in the sixth. A four-run seventh inning, highlighted by McIntyre's second home run of the game, put the game out of reach.
The Blue Hawks finished with 16 hits, led by Rodriguez (3-for-4, three RBIs) and McIntyre (two home runs, four RBIs). Ramon Teran and Wyatt Wilharm each added three hits.
Tate Williams earned the win with six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine. Trent Chavez closed the game with a scoreless seventh.
Game 2
Dickinson State rallied late but Dakota State responded in the eighth inning to claim a 13-9 win in Game 2.
The Blue Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning behind an RBI double from Luis Rodriguez and a Dakota State error. The Trojans answered with six runs in the bottom half and added single runs in the second and fourth innings to build an 8-3 advantage.
Dickinson State chipped away and trailed 8-4 entering the eighth before taking the lead. The Blue Hawks loaded the bases and Rodriguez delivered a grand slam to center field, giving Dickinson State a 9-8 lead.
Dakota State responded with five runs in the bottom of the eighth to regain control. The inning included a two-run home run by Aidan Perry and multiple RBI singles.
Rodriguez led Dickinson State offensively, going 2 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs. Ty Farwell added two doubles, while McIntyre hit a solo home run.
Dickinson State brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth but was unable to complete the comeback.
