JAMESTOWN, N.D. — Dickinson State produced a dominant offensive performance and a complete-game effort in the circle to sweep Mayville State in a Frontier Conference doubleheader on Friday, winning 11-0 in five innings in the opener and 8-2 in game two.
In game one, Dickinson State (19-12) scored in three consecutive innings to pull away for a run-rule victory.
After a scoreless first inning, the Blue Hawks broke through in the second. Allyson Farrington delivered a two-run double to open the scoring, bringing in Kiley Hubby and Jessa Duggan for a 2-0 lead.
Dickinson State extended the lead in the third inning with five runs. Brooke Lijewski started the rally with an RBI double, and Octavia Meyer followed with a sacrifice fly. Jaydin Sabol added an RBI double, and Duggan drove in a run with a single. The Blue Hawks also capitalized on a passed ball to push the lead to 6-0.
The Blue Hawks added four more runs in the fourth inning. Hubby highlighted the inning with a two-run triple, while Meyer and Farrington each drove in runs to extend the advantage to 10-0.
Hope Fath earned the win with a complete-game shutout, allowing no hits and striking out three over five innings. She faced 18 batters and issued one walk while limiting Mayville State to minimal opportunities.
Dickinson State totaled 11 hits in the game, with Farrington finishing with two doubles and three RBIs. Hubby recorded a triple and drove in two runs, while Duggan added two hits and an RBI.
In game two, Dickinson State (20-12) used a five-run first inning to take early control and complete the sweep with an 8-2 victory.
Mayville State opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on an RBI double, but the Blue Hawks responded immediately in the bottom half. Celina Wilharm tripled and scored on a double by Lijewski to tie the game. Hubby followed with a two-run home run to give Dickinson State a 3-1 lead. Later in the inning, Farrington added a two-run single to cap a five-run frame.
Dickinson State added two runs in the fourth inning. Lijewski delivered an RBI single, and Meyer drove in a run on a groundout to extend the lead to 7-1.
Mayville State plated a run in the fifth inning, but Dickinson State answered in the sixth. Wilharm reached and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Hubby to make it 8-2.
Ava Jahner earned the complete-game victory, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out six. She worked through multiple innings with traffic on the bases and limited Mayville State to single runs in two separate innings.
Wilharm led the offense with four hits and three runs scored, while Hubby drove in three runs. Lijewski added two hits and two RBIs, and Farrington contributed two hits and two RBIs.
Dickinson State finished with 12 hits in game two and used consistent offensive production throughout the lineup to secure the doubleheader sweep.
The Blue Hawks will continue conference play tomorrow in Jamestown against Mayville State University, the first game of the doubleheader starting at 3:00pm.
