Keithan Gregg

Keithan Gregg enters his first season as head women's basketball coach at Dickinson State in 2026-27. Named to the position in March 2026, Gregg brings more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience across the NCAA Division I and NAIA levels, with an extensive background in recruiting, defensive strategy, player development and program operations.

Before joining Dickinson State, Gregg spent the 2025-26 season as associate head coach at Idaho State University. He previously spent 10 seasons with the Portland State women's basketball program, including four as associate head coach from 2021-25. Gregg joined the Vikings in 2015 as director of basketball operations before transitioning to a full-time assistant coaching role in 2017.

During his tenure at Portland State, Gregg helped guide the Vikings to the 2019 Big Sky Conference Tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament. Portland State finished the season 25-8, the program's highest win total during its Big Sky era. The Vikings led the conference in several defensive categories, including field goal percentage defense, steals and blocked shots. Portland State held opponents to 35.6% shooting from the field, ranking 13th nationally, while also ranking among the national leaders in assists and blocks.

Gregg played a significant role in Portland State's defensive preparation and late-game strategy. During the 2022-23 season, he helped guide the Vikings to the largest year-to-year conference turnaround in program history. After finishing 0-20 in Big Sky play the previous season, Portland State improved to 8-10 in conference competition and advanced to the Big Sky Tournament semifinals. The Vikings reduced their scoring defense average by approximately 10 points per game and went 5-0 in conference games decided by five points or fewer.

Throughout his time at Portland State, Gregg worked closely with the team's guards and helped develop numerous All-Big Sky Conference performers. Among them was Esmeralda Morales, who earned first-team All-Big Sky honors in 2024 after becoming the first Viking to lead the conference in scoring. Morales also made 87 3-pointers that season, the second-highest single-season total in Portland State history. Gregg helped develop additional all-conference guards, including Sidney Rielly, Ashley Bolston and Kylie Jimenez, who was named the 2018 Big Sky Freshman of the Year.

Gregg also contributed to Portland State's perimeter offense. During the 2019-20 season, the Vikings established a program record with 261 made 3-pointers while shooting 37.3% from beyond the arc. His work in recruiting, scouting and player development helped the Vikings remain competitive in the Big Sky Conference while developing several players who finished among the program's career statistical leaders.

Before joining Portland State, Gregg served as the head boys basketball coach at Ashland High School in Oregon during the 2014-15 season. He guided the Grizzlies to a 12-12 record and an appearance in the Oregon Class 5A state tournament just two seasons after the program had won only one game. Gregg coached all-conference standout Collin Malcom, who later earned NAIA All-America honorable mention recognition at Warner Pacific. He also served as Ashland's head girls tennis coach, helping the program share the 2015 Oregon Class 5A state championship.

Gregg began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Great Falls, now the University of Providence, where he served as an assistant men's basketball coach from 2009-14. During his tenure, the Argos climbed as high as No. 21 in the NAIA national rankings in 2013. Gregg also recruited Marcel Towns, who earned Frontier Conference Player of the Year honors in both 2013 and 2014. His responsibilities included recruiting, scouting, player development and program operations.

A native of Cut Bank, Montana, Gregg played three seasons of collegiate basketball at the University of Great Falls. During the 2005-06 season, he led the NAIA in assists, establishing himself as a playmaker before transitioning into coaching following his playing career.

Gregg earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Great Falls in 2010 and a master's degree in organizational management in 2013.

Gregg's wife, Chelsey, also serves on the Dickinson State women's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach. The two previously worked together at Portland State and Idaho State before joining the Blue Hawks in 2026.
