Blue Hawks fall to Bellevue University and Dakota State

Dickinson, ND- the Dickinson State University volleyball team drops two conference matches over the weekend.

Dickinson State University Blue Hawks (0) vs. Bellevue University Bruins (3)

In the first set, the Blue Hawks were point-for-point until the Bruins led the Hawks 11-16. The Blue Hawks then went on a five-ball run to tie the match 16-16. The Blue Hawks fell to an 18-20 deficit, but three kills by Abby Moerkerke tied the game again 21-21. The Bruins and Blue Hawks would exchange leads for the next six points, until the Hawks lost 25-27. In the second set, the Blue Hawks struggled to get out a rotation while the Bruins pushed forward to a 13-17 ball run. The Blue Hawks ended up losing the match 16-25. In the third set, the Blue Hawks came out swinging and led for most of the match until the Bruins tied it 16-16. The Blue Hawks ended up losing the match 24-26.

Leading the way on offense was junior outside hitter Baylie Dashner with nine and hitting a 0.208 on the match. Abby Moerkerke and Alyssa Wisher both added another seven kills on the match. Moerkerke hit a 0.333 and Wisher hit a 0.286. Outside hitter, Cassie North added another six kills to the match. At the serving line, Jenna Swope had two aces and Keera Stookey added another one ace.

Keera Stookey led in assists with 14 and Karlie Cleveland added another 12 assists.

On defense, both Keera Stookey and Sarah Dobitz had seven digs total. At the net, Alyssa Wisher had three assisted blocks and one solo block. Abby Moerkerke had two assisted blocks.

The Blue Hawks came out in the first set down 11-18 and never did recover. The Blue Hawks went on to lose the set 17-25. In the 2nd set, the Hawks again fell to a 12-17 deficit and ended up losing the set 15-25. In the third set, the Blue Hawks got into a better rhythm but lost the game 19-25.

Leading the way on offense was Abby Moerkerke and Cassie North. Both hitters had 7 kills each. At the serving line, Karlie Cleveland led the way with one ace. Keera Stookey led the way in assists with 11 and Karlie Cleveland added another six assists.

On defense, Sarah Dobitz led the way with ten digs. Erin Campbell, Jenna Swope, and Karlie Cleveland each had 5 digs. At the net, Alyssa Wisher had 3 assisted blocks. Abby Moerkerke added another 2 assisted blocks.

Next on the schedule, the Blue Hawks travel to La Crosse, WI to take on Viterbo University Friday, October 25.
