Madison, SD- the Dickinson State University volleyball team finishes their fall season with a win over Dakota State University.
How it happened
In the first set, the Blue Hawks started strong with back-to-back blocks at the net by Shaina Solon and Baylie Dashner. The Blue Hawks continued to go point-for-point with the Trojans until making a four ball run and pushing ahead 15-11. The Trojans were able to tie it up again 20-20. An ace by Sarah Dobitz gave the Blue Hawks a 21-20 lead. A kill by Baylie Dashner from Karlie Cleveland would seal the 25-23 first set win.
In the second set, the Blue Hawks played catch up until a block by Baylie Dashner and Ashlyn Hamilton tied the game 8-8. The Hawks would have seven more ties until they finally pushed ahead to lead 18-15. The Blue Hawks held the lead coming away with another 25-23 set win over Dakota State. In the third set, the Blue Hawks got down early and never did recover, the Blue Hawks went on to lose the set 11-25.
Regrouping going into the fourth set, Karlie Cleveland served tough and went on a 5-0 lead over the Trojans. The Blue Hawks continued to hold the lead 19-12 and finished the set winning 25-20.
Individual Stats
Leading the way on offense was Baylie Dashner with 16 kills and hitting a 0.267%. Right behind Dashner was teammate Abby Moerkerke with 12 kills. At the serving line, the Blue Hawks totaled eight aces. Karlie Cleveland led the way with three aces, and Sarah Dobitz had two aces. Adina Taylor, Mackenna Johnson and Ashlyn Hamilton each had one ace.
Leading the way in assists was junior setter, Karlie Cleveland. Cleveland tallied 33 assists during the match.
On defense, senior libero, Sarah Dobitz had a season high of 24 digs. Also leading the way in defense was Abby Moerkerke with 14 digs. Karlie Cleveland and Farrah Zeller each had ten digs and Mackenna Johnson had nine digs. At the net, Both Ashlyn Hamilton and Shaina Solon had six assisted blocks. Mackenna Johnson had five assisted blocks and Baylie Dashner had four assisted blocks.

The Blue Hawks will kickoff season again in March when they begin their spring season. The first contest in the spring will be March 12th against Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI.
