Mayville, ND – The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks defeated the Mayville State Comets 37-7 on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Hawks defense forced five interceptions in the win.
Dickinson State started the game off with a bang when the offense drove down the field on their first possession that led to a Derek Tabor 8-yard touchdown run. Jeremiah Paine's PAT was good and the Blue Hawks led 7-0 with 9:56 left in the first quarter. The Blue Hawk defense started the interception party when Aaron White picked off Creighton Pfau on Mayville State's second drive of the day. The interception led the Blue Hawks down the field but at the end of the first quarter the Hawks led 7-0. The second quarter started with Drew Boedecker finding Jaret Lee for the 4-yard touchdown strike. Paine's PAT was good and the Blue Hawks led 14-0 with 14:14 left in the second quarter. Paxton Miller recorded the second INT of the day for the defense and Derek Tabor cashed in on the turnover on the next play on a run from 30 yards out. Jeremiah Paine's PAT was once again good and DSU took a 21-0 lead late in the second quarter. Justin Tauaefa picked off a Mayville State pass in the endzone to stop a drive right before halftime and the Blue Hawks went into the locker room with a 21-0 lead at the half.
The third quarter started just as the first half ended when Jared Smith intercepted a Mayville State pass with 10:03 left in the third quarter. The offense couldn't convert the turnover into points as Mayville State got the ball back and scored their only touchdown of the day on long touchdown pass. The extra point was good and Dickinson State led 21-7. The third quarter came to an end with the score still 21-7 Dickinson State. Riley Linder kicked off the fourth quarter with a 12-yard scamper for a touchdown and the extra point was good giving the Blue Hawks a commanding 28-7 lead with 12:13 left in the game. The defense forced a 3-and-out on the next series which led to a Jeramiah Paine 32-yard field goal for the Blue Hawks. The field goal made the score 31-7 with 8:15 left in the fourth quarter. The next Mayville State series resulted in a Reece Hoherz interception for the Blue Hawk defense. Braden Zuroff cashed in off the turnover from 4 yards out to give the Blue Hawks the 37-7 lead as the clock ran out. "It was another good road win," head coach Pete Stanton stated after the game. "We did a good job in the first half taking what they were giving us on offense. Other than one big play we did a good job on defense. Our guys did a nice job of putting them away in the fourth quarter on both sides of the ball."
Individual Stats
The Blue Hawk offense rolled up 405 yards of total offense. Drew Boedecker was 12-23 for 148 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Derek Tabor led threw the air with two catches for 59 yards. Jaret Lee added five receptions for 43 yards and one touchdown. The ground game was led by Riley Linder who carried 16 times for 84 yards and one touchdown. The Blue Hawk defense was led by Nick Miller and Keaton Meschke who both accounted for 9 tackles. Jared Smith, Peyton Hanson and Evan Henke each recorded a sack on the day. The Blue Hawk defense had a staggering five interceptions on the game. Dawson McGlothlin, Justin Tauaefa, Reece Hoherz, Paxton Miller and Deavon Crawford all recorded interceptions on the day.

The Blue Hawks are back in action next Saturday, October 24th against Waldorf University. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm.
