Blue Hawks use strong second half to pull away from Presentation

Aberdeen, SD - The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks used a big 21-0 second half run to put away Presentation College 35-6 on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Hawk defense came out strong when Dawson McGlothlin (JR/Sidney, MT) intercepted a pass on Presentation's first drive of the game. However, the Blue Hawk offense would turn it over on the next series and the first quarter would come to an end with a 0-0 tie game. The offense started to find its groove in the second quarter when Drew Boedecker (JR/Sheridan, WY) connected with Jaret Lee (SR/Dickinson, ND) for a 14-yard touchdown pass. Jeremiah Paine (SO/Grenora, ND)'s PAT was good and the Hawks led 7-0 with 6:53 left in the second quarter. Presentation answered with an 80-yard touchdown pass of their own but the 2-pt conversion was no good and the Hawks still led 7-6 in the contest. The Blue Hawk offense struck again right before the half when Boedecker found Tyger Frye (SR/Billings, MT) for a 12-yard strike. The PAT was good to give DSU the 14-6 lead going into the half.

The Blue Hawks came out of half-time fired up as they marched right down the field as Riley Linder (SO/Flaxville, MT) scored on a 4-yard touchdown run. Paine's PAT was good again and the Hawks led 21-6 with 11:10 left in the 3rd quarter. The Blue Hawk defense then forced a turnover as Reece Hoherz (JR/Beulah, ND) forced a fumble and Aaron Faletoi (FR/Soldotna, AK) fell on it to get the ball back for DSU. The offense went three and out but the Blue Hawk's forced another turnover a couple plays later as Jared Smith (JR/Glasgow, MT) stepped in front of a screen pass for the interception. Derek Tabor (SR/Killdeer, ND) cashed in on the turnover as he found pay dirt from 3-yards out to give the Hawks a 28-6 lead with 5:15 to go in the 3rd quarter. The 4th quarter saw the Hawks add to their lead when Riley Linder ran it in from 5 yards out for his second rushing touchdown of the day. The PAT was good and the Blue Hawks pushed the lead to 35-6 with 12:37 to play. Paxton Miller (SR/Savage, MT) came up with an interception late in the fourth quarter to end a PC drive to cap a great day by the Blue Hawk defense.

"We had a slow start but credit Presentation, they played well in the first half. We had a great drive to end the first half and played well on both sides of the ball from that point on. Our guys finished well. It is always good to get a road win," stated head coach Pete Stanton.
