Blue Hawks defeat the Comets 51-26 in home opener

Dickinson, ND- the Dickinson State University Blue Hawks down the Mayville State University Comets 51-26.

In the first quarter, after a false start by the Blue Hawk defense, the Comets scored giving them a six-point lead. The Comet kick was blocked and Dawson McGlothlin (Sidney, MT) ran it back for a two-point touchdown return. On the next drive by the Blue Hawks, Alec Lovegren had a 19-yard touchdown giving the Blue Hawks a lead of 9-6. On the first down of the second quarter, Boedecker threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to Jaret Lee. The extra point was good and the Hawks were up 16-6. With 10:40 left in the game, Sophomore QB Aaron White threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Conor McCarvel giving the Hawks a 23-6 lead over the Comets. The Comets scored with 1:39 left making it 23-13. With 49 seconds left in the half, the Comets scored again making it 23-19 going into halftime.

After halftime, the Blue Hawks Riley Linder scored giving them a lead of 30-19. The Comets responded with a 14-yard touchdown closing the gap, 30-26. With four minutes left in the quarter, Boedecker connected with Jaret Lee for a 31-yard touchdown pass, the extra kick was good, and the Blue Hawks led 37-26. At the start of the 4th quarter, Boedecker connected with Tyger Frye in the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown pass, the PAT was good and the Blue Hawks led 44-26. With 5:58 remaining on the clock, Derek Tabor ran it in for an 8-yard touchdown, the Blue Hawks led 51-26.

Individual Stats

The Dickinson State offense gathered 540 yards of total offense. Drew Boedecker went 15-23 for 243 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Leading the ground game was Riley Linder as he gained 83 yards off 13 carries and 1 touchdown. Derek Tabor also had 53 yards off 10 carries and 1 touchdown. Jaret Lee racked up 154 yards off six catches and two touchdown. Tyger Frye recorded six catches for 74 yards and one touchdown. Noah Sickler had two catches for 49 yards and Conor McCarvel had two catches for 11 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Jayden Heartwell had 6 tackles (3 solo and 3 assisted). Jared Smith had four tackles- 3 solo and one assisted and one sack. Keaton Meschke and Peyton Hanson each had four total tackles.

Schedule

Saturday, September 26 the Blue Hawks will take on the Valley City State University Vikings at the Biesiot Activities Center. There will be no tailgating for this event. Kickoff for the Hawks is scheduled for 2pm MT and admission will be open at 1pm MT.
