Blue Hawks defeat the Vikings to take the lead in the NSAA conference

Dickinson, ND- the Dickinson State University Blue Hawks defeat the Valley City State University Vikings 27-13.

In the first quarter, the Vikings were the first to draw blood capitalizing on a fumble by the Blue Hawks. The Blue Hawks trailed 0-7 with 11:26 left in the first quarter. A huge sack by Aaron Faletoi would send the Blue Hawks into the 2nd quarter trailing 0-7. At the start of the 2nd quarter, the Blue Hawks marched down the field to get within the red zone. With 11:39 remaining in the half, Boedecker threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Kellen Ray, the PAT was good, and the game was tied 7-7. With 1:05 remaining in the half, Boedecker connected with Tyger Frye, the kick was good, and the Blue Hawks led the Vikings 14-7.

After halftime, the Blue Hawks scored again with three minutes left to play. Drew Boedecker threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Jaret Lee, Jeremiah Paine's PAT was good, and the Blue Hawks were ahead 21-7. At the start of the 4th quarter, the Vikings scored closing the gap, but the PAT was blocked, and the Hawks led 21-13. With 5:19 remaining in the game, the Blue Hawks scored again. Drew Boedecker connected with Tyger Frye in the endzone for a 23-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was blocked and the Blue Hawks remained in a 27-13 lead over the Vikings. With four minutes left, the Blue Hawks Nick Miller came away with a big interception. The Blue Hawks would go on to defeat the Valley City Vikings 27-13.

Individual Stats

The Dickinson State offense gathered 449 yards of total offense. Drew Boedecker went 19-31 for 265 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Leading the ground game was Riley Linder as he gained 127 yards off 27 carries. Derek Tabor also had 34 yards off 11 carries. Frye recorded eight catches for 89 yards and two touchdown. Jaret Lee had seven catches for 132 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Nick Miller had seven tackles (three solo and four assisted). Reece Hoherz had seven tackles- one solo and six assisted. Krew Mathern added another six tackles (two solo and four assisted) and Aaric Spring had five tackles (two solo and three assisted). Nick Miller also had one interception.

"Very proud of our guys today and the way they battled. We had the early turnover and they had the short field touchdown, but after that we really settled in. The defense had some nice stops and the offense had a great drive in the fourth to seal it. We were very proud of all the efforts," stated head coach Pete Stanton.
