Dickinson, ND- the Dickinson State University volleyball team splits conference matches over the weekend.
Dickinson State University vs. Viterbo University
How it happened
In the first set, the Blue Hawks got down early starting off down 0-4 to the Viterbo University V-Hawks. The Blue Hawks continued to struggle to get their offense going and were down 1-6 early in the first set. The Blue Hawks made a late run and went on a four-point scoring run at the end to come within six, but would go on to lose the set 19-24.
In the second set, the Blue Hawks again started off down, and stayed down the entire game. They went on to lose the set 12-25. In the final set, the Blue Hawks started off aggressive and were point-for-point with the V-Hawks with eleven ties throughout the game. A kill by Baylie Dashner from Karlie Cleveland would again tie the game 18-18. The V-Hawks went on a 5-0 scoring run to help seal their 19-25 victory over the Blue Hawks.

As a team, the Blue Hawks had 29 kills and as a team hit 0.082%. On defense the Blue Hawks had 37 digs. At the net, the Hawks had three total blocks.
Individual Stats
Mackenna Johnson led the way on offense with 12 kills and hitting a 0.269%. Baylie Dashner added another nine kills during the match. At the serving line, Baylie Dashner had two aces, and Karlie Cleveland had one ace.

How it happened
After a quick turnaround, the Blue Hawks recovered well sweeping the Waldorf University Warriors.
In the first set, three kills by Mackenna Johnson in a row put the Blue Hawks ahead 5-2. The Warriors would tie the match 5-5, but the Blue Hawks pushed forward and went on a 4-0 scoring run giving them a 9-5 edge over the Warriors. The Warriors tied the match again 11-11, and took a 14-12 lead over Dickinson State. Keeping composure, a block by Karlie Cleveland tied the match again 14-14. The Blue Hawks capitalized off four Warrior mistakes in a row and went on to win set one 25-19.
In the second set, Ashlyn Hamilton and Abby Moerkerke had a huge block on the right side swinging the score 6-3 in the Blue Hawks favor. The Warriors tied the game 7-7, but an ace by Farrah Zeller gave them another 8-7 lead. Dickinson State pushed ahead and another block by Ashlyn Hamilton and Abby Moerkerke gave them a 17-13 lead. A block by Shaina Solon and Mackenna Johnson would seal the 25-18 game victory for the Blue Hawks.
In the final set, the Blue Hawks continued to play big at the net and went on a 6-1 scoring run extending their lead 18-12. A kill by outside hitter Baylie Dashner from Karlie Cleveland sealed the 25-18 victory for Dickinson State.
