BUTTE - The Dickinson State men's basketball team (1-6) fell, 94-84, to University of Providence (4-1) in a high-scoring affair at the Montana Tech Fall Classic on Friday afternoon. The game was close early in the first half, but Providence took a commanding 15-point lead into the halftime break thanks to a 40-foot buzzer beater to end the first half, and cruised the rest of the way, shooting 77 percent (13-17) from three on the night.
Gus Wright led the Blue Hawks with 16 points on 6-8 shooting and added a team-high eight rebounds in a strong effort. John Evans and Jaiden Wright both had 13 points, while Kose Egbule (11) and Riley Spoonhunter (12) both finished in double figures as well. Jaiden Wright pulled down seven rebounds, had six assists, and two steals off the bench to go along with his 13 points in just 14 minutes.
Free throws proved to be the difference in the game, as the Blue Hawks shot just 38 percent (8-21) from the charity stripe, while Providence went 12-13.
