Eighth in Frontier Preseason Poll

Dickinson State received 51 points and was picked eighth in the 12-team Frontier Conference men’s basketball coaches’ preseason poll. Rocky Mountain was first with 119 points and 10 first-place votes, while Bellevue and Montana Tech tied for second at 100 points each.

Selvig Enters Seventh Season

Eight Letterwinners Return

The 2026-27 roster has 16 players, with eight returning letterwinners. The Blue Hawks must integrate new contributors while establishing a rotation in the opening nonconference contests.

Frierson Returns as a Producer

Senior guard Detavius Frierson averaged 9.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists across 15 games in 2025-26, making him the top returning scorer listed in the team quick facts.

Stewart Adds Experience

Senior forward DC Stewart averaged 5.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per game last season. His experience and frontcourt versatility offer continuity entering the new schedule.

Cranston Back in the Backcourt

Dickinson native Britton Cranston returns for his senior season after averaging 4.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 28 games during 2025-26.

Replacing Last Season’s Scoring

The Conference Calendar

Frontier Conference play begins Nov. 20 at Bismarck State. Dickinson State’s first scheduled home game is Nov. 28 against Midland at Scott Gymnasium.

Storylines to Watch
How Will the New Rotation Fit?

Sixteen players and eight returning letterwinners give Selvig a combination of experience and new faces. The Omaha weekend is the first chance to see the 2026-27 group play together.

Finding Reliable Offense

Dickinson State averaged 73.0 points per game in 2025-26. With Doughty and Stinson departing, the Blue Hawks will need returning guards and incoming players to share more of the scoring load.

Three-Point Consistency

The Blue Hawks shot 31.3% from beyond the arc last season. Perimeter efficiency is an early area to monitor against Doane and Bethany.

Winning the Glass

Dickinson State averaged 32.5 rebounds per game last year, compared with 34.6 for its opponents. Rebounding margin will be an important early indicator.

Getting Stops

The Blue Hawks allowed 78.0 points per game in 2025-26, five more than they scored. Defensive consistency will be a focus as the season opens.

Two Games, One Location

The Blue Hawks play on consecutive afternoons in Omaha. The neutral-court setting will provide an early test before the Oct. 30 road game at Midland.
