DICKINSON - After starting the game 6-16 from the field in the first quarter, Dickinson State (4-5) was held to just 7-35 the rest of the way, as (RV) Rocky Mountain College ran away with an 81-42 victory on Friday afternoon.
Jenna Jacobson got the Blue Hawks on the board first putting DSU up 2-0 one minute into the game and the score held there until a RMC three-pointer gave the Bears the lead with 7:56 left. One play later Dickinson State took a huge blow when the teams leading scorer and rebounder, Samantha Oase, went down with an injury. She was unable to return to the game, leaving a large amount of production out of the DSU lineup. After RMC extended their lead to 6-2 on another three-pointer, Heather LaBree and Kayden Steele connected from deep giving the lead back to DSU, 8-6. Danielle Wallace and Tayte Kohn both had go ahead baskets in the quarter after Rocky Mountain tied it up, but a 7-0 RMC run gave the Bears a lead they never relinquished. Another Steele three-pointer cut the deficit to just two after 10 minutes, 17-15.
The Blue Hawks didn't make another field goal until Tinley Pierson scored with 5:13 left in the half. Dickinson State was outscored 18-6 in the second quarter and headed to the break down 35-21. The second half was all Bears, as RMC dominated in the paint and held DSU's two top remaining scorers, Lindsay Peterson and McKenzie Johnson, to just two points combined on the night. Peterson did grab a team-high five rebounds, but was held to 0-5 from the field and zero points for the first time this season.
