Bellevue, Neb. – Dickinson State split a pair of games at the Chick-fil-A Classic in Bellevue, Nebraska over the weekend. The Blue Hawks fell to Mount Mercy on day one before taking Saturday's game over Southwestern Christian.
Game One – MMU 97 DSU 73
Dickinson State (2-1) fell to Mount Marty in a high-scoring matchup on Friday at the Lozier Athletic Center. Mount Mercy pulled ahead in the second quarter and never looked back, pulling away for a 97-73 victory.
Mount Mercy was led by Malie Marfil, who scored 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and Sadie Struchen, who added 20 points, including six three-pointers. Madison Skelton contributed 18 points and four rebounds, while Claudia Vanzant led on the boards with 10 rebounds.
For Dickinson State, Anhelica Shanrock scored a team-high 16 points, and Kayden Steele added 14 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Despite out-rebounding Mount Mercy 34-33, the Blue Hawks struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 20% on 4-of-20 three-point attempts.
Mount Mercy shot 56.5% from the field and 66.7% from three-point range while Dickinson State shot 45.0% overall.
Game Two – DSU 97 SCU 73
DSU (3-1) held off Southwestern Christian (0-2) with a 76-70 win in a close battle on Saturday afternoon to close out their weekend in Bellevue.
Samantha Oase led the Blue Hawks with a dominant double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while shooting an impressive 8-for-11 from the field. Katherine Fox added 13 points, including 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, while J'ell Garfield contributed 10 points off the bench.
Southwestern Christian was paced by Jayden Mason's 15 points and five steals. Kennedy Allison added 13 points, and Delaney Reimer recorded 10 points with eight rebounds.
Dickinson State shot 55.3% from the field and went 79.2% from the free-throw line. Southwestern Christian struggled offensively, shooting 32.3% from the field and 19.2% from beyond the arc.
