Blue Hawks crush comets for weekend sweep

Dickinson, N.D. - Dickinson State surged to an 82-64 victory over Mayville State on Saturday afternoon in Scott Gym. The Blue Hawks dominated the second half, leveraging strong defensive play and efficient shooting to secure the conference win.

The Blue Hawks jumped out to an early lead, fueled by Kose Egbule's strong inside presence and perimeter shooting. Egbule finished the night with a game-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Dickinson State's balanced scoring effort saw contributions from John Evans and Cordell Stinson, who combined for 23 points, as the team shot an efficient 46.9 percent from the field.

Mayville State struggled to find offensive rhythm in the opening minutes but closed the gap to five points by halftime, trailing 33-28. Justin Fisher led the Comets with 18 points and nine rebounds, while John White Jr. added 11 points. Despite their efforts, Mayville State was hindered by turnovers, committing 16, which Dickinson State converted into 19 points.

The second half belonged to the Blue Hawks, who outscored the Comets 49-36. Dickinson State's defense tightened, limiting Mayville State to 41.1 percent shooting overall and just 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. On the other end, the Blue Hawks improved their three-point shooting in the second half, finishing at 31.8 percent for the game, highlighted by timely shots from Jake Daniel and Trey Stevens.

Dickinson State also controlled the glass, outrebounding Mayville State 42-33. The Blue Hawks capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 12 points off offensive rebounds compared to Mayville State's four. Bradyn Palmer and Stinson were instrumental in this effort, combining for eight boards and key putbacks in critical moments.
