Dickinson, N.D. - Dickinson State team faced a challenging afternoon as they fell to Mayville State, 69-46, on Saturday in Scott Gymnasium.

Dickinson State struggled offensively, shooting just 24.6% from the field, including a 3-for-17 mark from beyond the arc. Despite a strong rebounding effort, with 41 total boards led by Kayden Steele's nine, the Blue Hawks were unable to find consistent scoring against a solid Comet defense.

The opening quarter saw Dickinson State fall behind early, managing only four points while Mayville State surged to a 20-point opening period. The Blue Hawks found some rhythm in the second quarter, narrowing the deficit slightly by outscoring the Comets 15-11 in the period. However, they trailed 35-19 at halftime.

The offensive struggles continued in the second half for Dickinson State, as they shot just 16.7% in the third quarter, tallying only eight points. In the final quarter, the Blue Hawks managed a slight improvement, scoring 19 points, but Mayville State matched their intensity to close out the game.

Samantha Oase led Dickinson State with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Steele contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. Anhelica Shanrock added nine points off the bench. Despite their efforts, turnovers plagued the Blue Hawks, with 14 giveaways leading to 13 points for the Comets.

Mayville State's offense was fueled by Mackenzie Hughes, who led all scorers with 20 points, and Jes Mertens, who added 11 rebounds and five points. The Comets shot 36.8% from the field and converted 18-of-20 free throws, capitalizing on their opportunities from the charity stripe.
