Blue Hawks inch closer to NSAA title with another road win over UJ

Jamestown, N.D. - Dickinson State improved to 14-8 overall and 9-1 in the North Star Athletic Association with a 77-69 road victory over Jamestown on Friday night. The Blue Hawks built a commanding 42-23 halftime lead and withstood a late surge by the Jimmies to secure the win. Dickinson State now holds a two-game lead over Jamestown with five games to play in the race for the NSAA regular season crown. The Blue Hawks also hold the tie-breaker over UJ.

Cordell Stinson led Dickinson State with 17 points and nine rebounds, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Kose Egbule contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists while making all four of his free throw attempts. The Blue Hawks also received solid contributions from Jaiden Wright and John Evans, who scored eight points each, with Evans adding five rebounds.

Dickinson State shot 48.2% from the field, including 52.4% from beyond the arc, hitting 11 of their 21 three-point attempts. The team also converted 12-of-17 free throws, good for 70.6%. The Blue Hawks dominated on the boards, out-rebounding Jamestown 36-33, and capitalized on their bench depth, outscoring the Jimmies' bench 29-9.

Defensively, Dickinson State forced nine turnovers and recorded five steals, with Egbule and Stinson each contributing to the effort. The Blue Hawks limited Jamestown to 43.3% shooting from the field and just 21.1% from three-point range.

Dickinson State established control early, using a 17-4 run midway through the first half to build a double-digit lead. The Blue Hawks' efficient shooting from long range in the first half, where they hit 66.7% of their three-point attempts, propelled them to a 19-point halftime advantage.

Jamestown responded in the second half, outscoring Dickinson State 46-35, led by Silas Bennion's game-high 19 points. Despite Jamestown cutting the deficit to single digits late in the game, the Blue Hawks maintained composure, hitting key free throws and securing defensive rebounds to close out the win.
