DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State earned a straight-set Frontier Conference victory over Montana Tech, 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 26-24), Friday afternoon at Scott Gymnasium.
The win moves the Blue Hawks to 11-9 overall and 7-8 in conference play. Montana Tech, which entered the match receiving votes in the latest NAIA national poll, falls to 12-9 and 8-7.
Aubrey Allison led Dickinson State with 12 kills and 15 digs for a double-double. Ashtynn Egan added 10 kills, 14 digs and one solo block. Carmen Pallone finished with eight kills, three service aces, and four block assists. Setter Rylee Kogolshak tallied 34 assists, six digs and three block assists. Libero Geraldyne Fernandez posted a match-high 18 digs and recorded one service ace.
Dickinson State opened the match with its most efficient offensive set, hitting .225 and holding Montana Tech to just eight kills in a 25-16 first-set win. The Blue Hawks built an early lead and never trailed, using a 9-2 stretch to pull away.
The second set featured 10 ties and three lead changes. DSU took control late behind back-to-back kills from Allison and Pallone, and a service ace by Pallone helped seal the 25-22 win. Montana Tech committed eight attack errors in the frame and hit just .100.
Montana Tech jumped ahead 13-9 in the third set, but Dickinson State responded with a 7-1 run to regain the lead. The Orediggers rallied late to tie the set at 24-24, but Egan delivered her 10th kill of the match and the Blue Hawks closed it out on the next rally, 26-24.
As a team, Dickinson State hit .180 while holding Montana Tech to .141. The Blue Hawks recorded 67 digs and 8.5 total blocks, led by Pallone and Cate Floy, who combined for seven block assists. DSU also posted six service aces to the Orediggers' one.
Montana Tech was led by Kinnidi Willmore with 15 kills and a .286 hitting percentage. Payton Treadwell added seven kills, and Madison Biery contributed four total blocks.
