Blue Hawks fall to No. 7 LC State in season opener

LEWISTON, Idaho – Dickinson State dropped its season opener Friday evening, falling 98-58 to No. 7-ranked Lewis-Clark State at the P1FCU Activity Center.

The Blue Hawks (0-1) were unable to match the pace and efficiency of the nationally-ranked Warriors, who shot 53.7 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from three-point range. Lewis-Clark State (1-0), ranked No. 7 in the NAIA preseason poll, led 25-16 after one quarter and maintained control throughout.

Kaylin Garza led Dickinson State with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting while adding four rebounds. Brae Eneboe posted 10 points and four rebounds, and J'ell Garfield finished with seven points and three assists. Kyrie Alldredge added nine points off the bench.

Dickinson State shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the floor and 25.0 percent (4-of-16) from beyond the arc. The Blue Hawks committed 25 turnovers, which resulted in 30 points for the Warriors.

Lewis-Clark State was led by Sitara Byrd's 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-6 from three. Payton Hymas added 21 points and eight made free throws. The Warriors led by as many as 43 and outscored the Blue Hawks 44-20 in the paint.

The Blue Hawks trailed 50-33 at halftime and managed just 10 points in the fourth quarter while the Warriors closed the game on a 27-10 run.

Despite the loss, Dickinson State totaled 14 assists and 35 rebounds, including 14 on the offensive end. The bench contributed 19 points, led by Alldredge and Sadie Stevenson, who scored four.
