BISMARCK, N.D. — Dickinson State split a doubleheader with Bismarck State on Friday at Haaland Field, rolling to a 12-4 win in the opener before falling 14-8 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Dickinson State 12, Bismarck State 4
Dickinson State used three home runs and a seven-run outburst across the second and third innings to take control early and never looked back. The Blue Hawks finished with 14 hits, three homers and two doubles in the win.
Logan Braaten opened the second with a solo shot to left, and after Ramon Teran drew a walk and stole second, Jadyn Roberts followed with a two-run homer for a 4-0 lead. DSU added four more in the third, highlighted by an RBI double from Sawyer Bryner, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch of Teran and a two-run single from Roberts.
Wyatt Wilharm added a solo homer in the fourth, and the Blue Hawks scored three more in the fifth with RBI hits from Moses Dokes, Wilharm and Bryner to make it 12-0.
Roberts finished 3-for-4 with a homer, double, four RBIs and three runs scored. Bryner went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Farwell, Dokes, Vatnsdal and Braaten each added an RBI.
Mason Lunzman earned the win, working five innings with seven strikeouts before Dominic Phillips covered the final two frames. DSU turned two double plays and did not commit an error.
Game 2: Bismarck State 14, Dickinson State 8
Bismarck State answered in the nightcap, using a six-run sixth inning to pull away after Dickinson State had tied the game at 8-8 in the fifth.
The Blue Hawks erased a five-run deficit with a six-run fifth. Roberts doubled in a run, Ty Farwell followed with a two-run homer, Wilharm doubled, Kadin Finders singled home a run and Braaten lifted a sacrifice fly. An error allowed the tying run to score.
Bismarck State responded with six runs in the sixth, capped by a two-run double from Haney and a pair of runs scoring on wild pitches.
Finders led DSU, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base. Roberts added two doubles and two runs scored, Wilharm went 2-for-4 with a double, and Farwell homered with two RBIs. Teran contributed two hits, including a double.
Logan Smith took the loss in relief. Panitzke earned the win for the Mystics.
With the split, Dickinson State moved to 3-3 on the fall season.
