MANDAN, N.D. – Blue Hawk Rodeo turned in another strong performance at the Bismarck State College Mystic Stampede, held Oct. 4–5 at the Dale Pahlke Arena in Mandan, N.D. The event served as the second-to-last rodeo of the fall season, with several Blue Hawks notching top-three finishes across multiple events. The DSU men's team placed third overall with 350 points, trailing only host Bismarck State College (755) and Mid-Plains Community College (675). The women's team tied for fifth with 110 points alongside Iowa Central Community College.
Strong Showing in Saddle Bronc
Sophomore standout
Tayson Jones continued his consistent fall campaign, riding to a second-place finish in saddle bronc riding with a score of 74 points. Teammate
Brody Froelich captured the Short Go title, marking another highlight for the Blue Hawk roughstock crew.
Team Roping Champions
The duo of
Colton Zubach and
Eli Higa claimed the Short Go championship in team roping and finished fourth overall in the average, earning valuable points toward DSU's team total. Their win underscores the Blue Hawks' depth across timed events as the fall schedule winds down.
Maher Posts Top Finish in Goat Tying
On the women's side,
Maci Maher posted another solid weekend, finishing second/third in the average in goat tying with a combined time of 14.2 seconds, earning points that helped secure DSU's top-five team placement.
Looking Ahead
The Mystic Stampede marked the fifth rodeo of the fall, with one remaining before the winter break. The Blue Hawks close out the semester at the Iowa Central Community College Triton Stampede, held Oct. 10–11 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
