BROOKINGS, S.D. - Dickinson State posted a strong weekend across both teams at the South Dakota State Jackrabbit Stampede, with the Blue Hawk women finishing third and the men taking fourth. Dickinson State totaled 195 points on the women's side to place third behind Mid-Plains Community College and host South Dakota State. The Blue Hawk men recorded 210 points to finish fourth in the team standings behind Iowa Central Community College, Mid-Plains Community College and Bismarck State College.
The Blue Hawks were led by several top-five individual finishes throughout the weekend, highlighted by a pair of strong performances in saddle bronc riding. Brody Froelich placed second in the saddle bronc average with a combined score of 116.0 points to earn key points for Dickinson State in the men's standings. Teammate Eli Higa added another scoring performance in the same event, finishing fourth in the average with 90.0 points.
On the women's side, Dickinson State recorded multiple top-five finishes across three events. Jaysee Jones placed fifth in the goat tying average with a time of 14.3 seconds, contributing important points toward the Blue Hawks' third-place team finish. Jenna Hume turned in a strong weekend in breakaway roping, finishing among the top competitors in the average and recording a first-place result in the long-go round during the event. Molly Rotenberger also earned a top-five finish in the barrel racing average to help pace Dickinson State's scoring effort on the women's side.
Dickinson State's balanced performances across events helped both teams remain competitive in a deep regional field that included several conference programs. The men's team finished ahead of host South Dakota State and several other regional opponents, while the women secured their third-place finish by narrowly edging North Dakota State in the team standings. Head coach Joe Schmidt noted the overall effort from both squads as the regular season approaches its final stretch. The Blue Hawks now turn their attention to the final two rodeos on the schedule as they continue preparing for the postseason push.
