Carroll tops Dickinson State 85-57 in Frontier men’s basketball opener

DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State fell to Carroll College 85-57 on Friday night in a Frontier Conference men's basketball game at Scott Gymnasium. The Blue Hawks dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Dickinson State opened the game with a pair of three-pointers from Griffyn Doughty to take an early 6-2 lead, but Carroll answered with a 13-3 run and never trailed again. The Saints led 46-23 at halftime and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

The Blue Hawks shot 34.5% from the field and just 20.6% from beyond the arc (7 of 34), while committing 16 turnovers that led to 26 Carroll points.

DC Stewart came off the bench to lead DSU with 13 points. Doughty added 12, and Britton Cranston scored eight and grabbed three rebounds. Michael Nance pulled down a team-high eight boards to go with seven points.

Carroll (3-1, 2-0) shot 50% from the floor and had four players in double figures, led by Isiah Crane and Nate Christy with 16 points apiece. The Saints outscored the Blue Hawks 44-16 in the paint and held a 47-31 rebounding edge.

Dickinson State returns to action Saturday against Rocky Mountain College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Scott Gymnasium.
