DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State dropped its Frontier Conference opener Friday evening, falling 66-40 to No. 14 Carroll College at Scott Gymnasium.
The Blue Hawks (2-3, 0-1 Frontier) were plagued by 24 turnovers, which Carroll turned into 25 points. The Saints (2-2, 1-1) led wire-to-wire, using a strong first quarter and a dominant fourth to close out the win.
Carroll jumped out to a 25-14 lead in the opening quarter behind three early three-pointers and never trailed. Dickinson State played even in the second period and entered the locker room down 34-25. However, the Blue Hawks were limited to 15 total points in the second half as the Saints' defensive pressure intensified.
Kaylin Garza led DSU with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 assists. Jada Clarkson added 8 points off the bench, while Kyrie Alldredge scored 7 and dished out 2 assists. Makena Hauge finished with 6 points and 5 rebounds in reserve minutes. Brae Eneboe contributed 6 points and 4 boards, and J'ell Garfield recorded 4 points, 4 rebounds and a team-high 3 assists.
Dickinson State shot 37.5% (18-for-48) from the field but connected on just 2-of-13 attempts from beyond the arc. The Blue Hawks attempted only two free throws all night, converting both. Despite matching Carroll with 34 total rebounds and posting seven blocks, DSU's offensive struggles and giveaways proved decisive.
Willa Albrecht led Carroll with 16 points, while Avery Kraft scored 13 and Jillian Kanduch added 10. The Saints shot 43.5% from the field and 25% from three. Carroll outscored DSU 38-26 in the paint and 30-14 in bench points.
The Blue Hawks briefly cut the deficit to single digits in the second quarter, capitalizing on baskets by Eneboe and Clarkson. Hauge provided a lift off the bench with a pair of second-chance scores. But DSU's momentum was short-lived, and Carroll stretched the lead to double digits for good in the third.
