LAST TIME OUT
Dickinson State opened Frontier Conference play at home with a challenging weekend, falling 85-57 to Carroll College on Friday and 65-62 to (RV) Rocky Mountain on Saturday. The Blue Hawks dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
On Friday, DSU got off to a quick start behind back-to-back threes from Griffyn Doughty, but Carroll responded with a 13-3 run and never trailed again. The Saints took control with a 46-23 halftime lead and outscored DSU 44-16 in the paint. DC Stewart led the Blue Hawks with 13 points off the bench, while Doughty added 12. Michael Nance grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Saturday's contest was more tightly contested, with DSU leading 32-28 at halftime and shooting 45.5% from the field. Weston Zacher sparked the offense with 12 points off the bench, and Doughty added 11. Cordell Stinson finished with 10 points and six rebounds. The Blue Hawks went 17-of-20 from the free throw line (85%) but were limited to one offensive rebound and couldn't convert on a final possession to tie the game.

SEASON PREVIEW
Dickinson State enters the 2025–26 campaign focused on building chemistry and competing in a challenging Frontier Conference. Sixth-year head coach Derek Selvig leads a retooled Blue Hawk squad coming off a 19–11 season that included regular-season and tournament titles in the North Star Athletic Association.
Senior forward Cordell Stinson returns to anchor the lineup after earning All-Conference and All-Defensive honors a season ago. He is joined by returning senior guard Jake Daniel and sophomore forward Weston Zacher. The Blue Hawks also welcome a strong group of newcomers, including junior guards Quincy Linton (South Puget Sound CC) and Isaiah Vargas (Highline CC), and junior forward Nate Visentin (Spokane CC).
 


HEAD COACH – DEREK SELVIG:
Derek Selvig enters his sixth season as head men's basketball coach at Dickinson State, coming off a historic 2024–25 campaign that saw the Blue Hawks capture both the NSAA regular-season and tournament championships. Under his leadership, DSU earned its first NAIA National Tournament berth in 20 years and ranked among the league's top teams in both offensive efficiency and scoring defense.
Since arriving in Dickinson, Selvig has developed multiple All-Conference performers, including 2025 NAIA All-American Kose Egbule and three-time All-NSAA guard John Evans. His 2024–25 squad also featured four All-Conference selections and earned him NSAA Coach of the Year honors.
Prior to DSU, Selvig was an assistant coach at Montana Tech, helping the program to back-to-back winning seasons and its first win over an NCAA Division I opponent. A native of Glendive, Mont., Selvig starred at the University of Montana (2007–12), where he led the Grizzlies to two NCAA Tournament appearances and later played professionally in Germany.
