Baseball splits double header against the University of Jamestown Jimmies

Blue Hawks Power Past Jamestown with Late-Inning Surge

Jamestown, N.D. — Behind three clutch home runs and stellar work from the bullpen, Dickinson State earned a statement 5-2 road win over the University of Jamestown on Saturday at Jack Brown Stadium.

After falling behind 2-0 early on a two-run blast by Jamestown's Ryan Muizelaar in the first inning, the Blue Hawks stayed composed and battled back. Catcher Cameron Erickson got Dickinson State on the board in the third with a solo shot to right-center, cutting the deficit in half.

The game remained tight until the seventh, when Luis Rodriguez launched a solo homer to left-center, tying the game at 2-2. The senior shortstop wasn't done — he later singled in the ninth to help spark a three-run rally that sealed the win. With two runners on and two outs, Jadyn Roberts delivered the knockout blow, sending a towering three-run homer to right-center that put the Blue Hawks ahead for good.

On the mound, starter Jacob Scully gave Dickinson State a gutsy seven-inning effort, scattering seven hits and striking out seven while holding the powerful Jimmies lineup in check. Trent Chavez came on in relief and slammed the door, allowing just one hit over two scoreless innings and striking out four to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the season.

Rodriguez led the offense with a 4-for-4 performance, while Erickson and Roberts each homered and drove in key runs. In total, Dickinson State racked up 13 hits and played error-free ball over the final four innings.

Jamestown Erupts in Fourth to Defeat Blue Hawks in Game Two

Jamestown, N.D. — Despite a pair of home runs from Wyatt Wilharm and Luis Rodriguez, Dickinson State couldn't hold off a red-hot Jamestown offense, falling 15-5 in Game Two of Saturday's doubleheader at Jack Brown Stadium.

Wilharm continued his strong day at the plate, launching two homers and going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, including a solo shot in the first and another in the seventh. Rodriguez added a two-run blast in the fourth to briefly tie the game at 3-3, but the momentum quickly shifted.

The Jimmies broke the game open with a nine-run bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a three-run homer from Ben Patton and a two-run shot by Alex Alva. Jamestown racked up 18 hits in the game and scored in five of their six innings at the plate.

Freshman pitcher Anthony Hanson took the loss for the Blue Hawks, allowing eight earned runs in less than an inning of relief. Despite the loss, Dickinson State managed seven hits and showed offensive sparks throughout the contest.

The Blue Hawks (15-24) earned a split on the day after winning Game One 5-2, but couldn't overcome Jamestown's explosive middle innings.

Head Coach Mike Dahl

In Game 1 we had another great performance by Jacob Scully. He has been doing a solid job for us all year. Any time we have him on the mound we know we have a chance to win a game. Homeruns can really change a college baseball game, today we had three different guys make an impact with their bats. Proud of how our team played all 9-innings.

In the second game, we learned the hard way how one inning can change the outcome of a game. Overall, I think we played a good game. But that fourth inning things just either went the Jimmies way or we couldn't stop the bleeding.
