Blue Hawks fall to Jamestown on the road

Sagan Osborne – Dickinson State Sports & Marketing Information Director

Jamestown, N.D. — Dickinson State dropped both games of a doubleheader at Jamestown on Friday, falling 6-1 in the opener and 8-6 in game two at Trapper Field.

In the first game, the Blue Hawks took an early lead in the top of the first inning when HaiLeigh Davis doubled to center and came around to score on a single by Celina Wilharm, aided by an error in right field. However, Jamestown responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame and never trailed again.

Jamestown added single runs in the third and sixth innings and pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away. Alison Eldridge took the loss in the circle, working 5.1 innings while allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Reannan Butler recorded the final two outs of the sixth in relief.

Dickinson State was limited to five hits in the opener, with Davis finishing 2-for-3 and Wilharm driving in the team's lone run. Brooke Lijewski, Kiley Hubby, and Wilharm each added a hit for the Blue Hawks.

Jamestown's H. Ransome went the distance, striking out seven without allowing an earned run. The Blue Hawks were unable to capitalize on limited opportunities, leaving five runners on base and committing two defensive errors.

In the second game, Dickinson State again jumped out early, scoring once in the first and twice more in the second to lead 3-0. Davis reached via a walk to open the game, stole home on a delayed double steal with Wilharm, who had singled and advanced to second. In the second, Kara Conway was hit by a pitch and later scored on a double by Jai Maddox-Hernandez. Maddox-Hernandez came home on a groundout by Allyson Farrington.

The Jimmies answered with one run in the bottom of the second and two more in the third, cutting the lead to 5-3 after three innings. The Blue Hawks extended their lead with two more runs in the third. Wilharm singled and scored on a groundout by Bailey Hansen, followed by a sacrifice fly from Hubby that brought in Lijewski.

Jamestown's offense continued to apply pressure, tying the game with two runs in the fourth and then taking the lead for good with two more in the fifth. Defensive miscues by the Blue Hawks contributed to the momentum shift, as Dickinson State committed three errors in the contest.

In the sixth, Farrington reached after being hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Wilharm, who advanced to second on an error in left field. However, Jamestown added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double from K. Geiszler, closing out the scoring at 8-6.

Wilharm led the Blue Hawk offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Lijewski added a hit and a run scored, while Maddox-Hernandez, Farrington, Hansen, Conway, and Hubby each contributed to the eight-hit effort.

Ava Jahner started in the circle and worked three innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Hope Fath took the loss in relief, giving up four runs—two earned—on six hits over three innings. Fath dropped to 6-3 on the season.

With the losses, Dickinson State moved to 27-13 overall and 13-5 in North Star Athletic Association play. Jamestown improved to 31-14 overall and 15-3 in the NSAA.
