MAYVILLE, N.D. – Dickinson State's second-half surge came up short as the Blue Hawks dropped a Frontier Conference matchup at Mayville State, 80-76, on Wednesday night.
Trailing 33-27 at halftime, Dickinson State (5-13, 3-9 Frontier) outscored the Comets 49-47 after the break and briefly held a late lead before Mayville State closed the game on a 13-6 run.
Griffyn Doughty led the Blue Hawks with 24 points, connecting on 8-of-19 from the field and 6-of-13 from beyond the arc. He scored 22 of his points in the second half and finished a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
Detavius Frierson recorded 18 points and 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. The junior guard went 6-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 at the line.
Nate Visentin added nine points and seven rebounds, while Cordell Stinson finished with five points, two assists, and two steals. Quincy Linton contributed eight rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes.
The Blue Hawks shot 40.9% from the field (27-for-66) and hit 29.6% from 3-point range (8-for-27). DSU converted 14 of 18 free throw attempts (77.8%) and held a 38-26 rebounding advantage. However, 15 turnovers led to 18 points for the Comets.
Mayville State (6-11, 2-10 Frontier) was led by Christian Bowen-Webb with 17 points. The Comets shot 52.4% from the field and scored 40 points in the paint.
