Linton’s game-winner lifts Dickinson State over Bismarck State, 86-84

BISMARCK, N.D. – Quincy Linton converted the game-winning layup on a feed from Cordell Stinson with 11 seconds remaining, and Dickinson State held on as Bismarck State's final three-point attempt missed at the buzzer in an 86-84 Frontier Conference road win Thursday night at the BSC Armory.

The Blue Hawks (6-14, 4-10 Frontier) saw a 16-point second-half lead erased but came through in the final possession. With the game tied at 84, Stinson drove and found Linton cutting to the basket for the go-ahead layup. Bismarck State advanced the ball after a timeout and got a clean look at a step-back three, but the shot missed as time expired.

Stinson led Dickinson State with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including four three-pointers. He also hit a clutch free throw with 40 seconds remaining to briefly give DSU the lead. Linton finished with eight points, six rebounds, five assists, and the decisive basket.

Griffyn Doughty added 14 points and was perfect at the line (4-for-4), while Weston Zacher contributed 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Nate Visentin added 10 points and five boards in 16 minutes.

"Really proud of our effort," said head coach Derek Selvig. "The ball hasn't been bouncing our way recently but our guys kept battling. Would have liked to close out the game a little better but Bismarck made some great plays. Great to see our guys pull out a close game with our backs against the wall on the road."

The Blue Hawks shot 43.5% from the field, hitting 12-of-32 from three-point range. DSU went 20-of-26 at the free throw line and totaled 30 rebounds. The game featured one tie and one lead change, both in the final minute.

Tristin Davis scored a game-high 26 points for the Mystics (1-19, 1-13), while Jah Gulley finished with 25 points and five assists. Alex Proctor chipped in 17.

Dickinson State led 41-35 at the half and extended the margin to 16 midway through the second period before BSC stormed back with a 16-2 run. A three-pointer by Shadoan tied the game at 84 with 24 seconds left, setting up the game-winning sequence.

The win completed a season sweep for Dickinson State over Bismarck State.
