DICKINSON, N.D. - Dickinson State cut into a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter, but Providence led from start to finish and came away with an 82-72 Frontier Conference women's basketball win Thursday at Dickinson.
Providence opened the game with a strong first quarter, taking a 27-17 lead after 10 minutes and extending its advantage to 50-35 by halftime. Dickinson State responded defensively after the break, limiting the Argonauts to 11 points in the third quarter, but still trailed 61-47 entering the final period. The Blue Hawks continued to chip away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Providence 25-21. Dickinson State connected on five 3-pointers in the final 10 minutes and pulled within single digits late, but the Argonauts answered from the free-throw line to close out the game.
Dickinson State finished the night shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from 3-point range, knocking down 11 triples. Providence shot 51.0 percent overall and 52.9 percent from beyond the arc. Anhelica Shanrock led Dickinson State with 23 points in 24 minutes, hitting three 3-pointers and going 4-for-5 at the free-throw line. Kaylin Garza followed with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including three makes from long range. Makena Hauge added 11 points off the bench, while J'ell Garfield contributed eight points and five assists.
Providence was led by Brooke Dial, who scored 29 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including four 3-pointers, and went 7-for-10 at the free-throw line. Eliannah Ramirez added 18 points, and Ainsley Thurber finished with 14. Providence controlled the rebounding battle, holding a 41-25 edge on the glass, and capitalized at the foul line with 21 made free throws on 29 attempts. Dickinson State went 7-for-11 from the stripe. Dickinson State totaled 20 assists and received solid production from its bench, outscoring Providence 17-7 in reserve points. Providence recorded 12 assists on the night.
