DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State shot 44% from the field and knocked down eight 3-pointers, but Montana Tech used a fast start and steady offense throughout to claim a 75-59 win over the Blue Hawks in Frontier Conference play Saturday night at Scott Gymnasium.
The loss drops Dickinson State to 4-9 overall and 2-7 in conference action. Montana Tech improved to 12-1 overall and 8-1 in league play.
Kaylin Garza led the Blue Hawks with 12 points, going 4 of 8 from the field and 4 of 6 at the free throw line. Brae Eneboe added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds, while J'ell Garfield and Anhelica Shanrock each chipped in seven points.
The Orediggers opened the game on a 7-0 run and led 23-13 after the first quarter. Dickinson State battled back to within six late in the second, but Montana Tech maintained control and led 42-28 at halftime.
DSU outshot Montana Tech from the field overall (44% to 42.4%) and from three-point range (40% to 33.3%) but struggled to convert turnovers into points and was outscored 20-7 in second-chance opportunities. Montana Tech also converted 20 of 26 from the free-throw line compared to just 7 of 12 for DSU.
The Blue Hawks trailed 54-41 after three quarters. Dylan Stedillie provided a spark off the bench with nine points on 3-for-3 shooting from long range in just 10 minutes of action. Makena Hauge added six points, going 2 of 3 from beyond the arc.
Montana Tech was led by Hadley Humpherys with 19 points and eight rebounds. Halle Haber added 13 points and seven boards, and Brooke Badovinac contributed 11 points. The Orediggers held a 40-27 advantage on the glass and turned 18 DSU turnovers into 19 points.
Dickinson State's bench accounted for 22 of the team's 59 points, and the Blue Hawks recorded assists on 16 of their 22 made field goals.
