DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State dropped a closely contested Frontier Conference women's basketball game Friday night, falling 71-69 to Bellevue inside the Scott Gymnasium.
The Blue Hawks battled throughout and were within one possession in the final seconds but were unable to convert on the final attempt as Bellevue secured the two-point road win. Dickinson State moved to 4-10 overall and 2-8 in Frontier Conference play, while Bellevue improved to 7-8 overall and 3-7 in league action.
Dickinson State matched Bellevue early, as the teams were tied 14-14 after the opening quarter. The Blue Hawks were active defensively and limited second-chance opportunities, while Bellevue relied on steady scoring to keep the game even.
Bellevue carried a 36-33 advantage into halftime after outscoring DSU 22-19 in the second quarter. Dickinson State continued to attack the paint and stayed within one possession for much of the period.
The Blue Hawks responded coming out of the locker room, shooting 8-for-15 in the third quarter to apply pressure. Dickinson State outscored Bellevue 20-16 in the period and briefly moved in front before the visitors held a 52-51 lead entering the fourth quarter.
The final 10 minutes featured tight possessions and timely baskets on both ends. Dickinson State tied the game at 55-all midway through the quarter and continued to answer Bellevue scores down the stretch. Bellevue regained the lead late and held off the Blue Hawks in the closing seconds. Dickinson State had a final look at the basket but was unable to convert before time expired.
Kyrie Alldredge led Dickinson State with 17 points, shooting 5-for-9 from the field and converting 5-of-7 at the free-throw line. Joy Beran recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Karoline Ellison added eight points. Dickinson State finished the game shooting 45.0 percent from the field and 26.9 percent from three-point range.
The Blue Hawks held a 41-33 rebounding advantage and scored 30 points off the bench. Bellevue made the difference at the free-throw line, converting 19-of-27 attempts.
Dickinson State returns to Frontier Conference action Saturday, continuing its homestand at the Scott Gymnasium.
