Dickinson State swipes 20 bases, sweeps Mayville State in Saturday doubleheader

DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State combined timely hitting with aggressive baserunning to sweep Mayville State in a Frontier Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Dakota Community Bank & Trust Ballpark. The Blue Hawks won the opener 9-6 and completed the sweep with a 13-6 victory in Game 2, totaling 20 stolen bases across the two games.

Game 1

Dickinson State scored four runs in the sixth inning to secure a 9-6 win in the opener.

The Blue Hawks took a 2-0 lead on solo home runs from Moses Dokes in the second inning and Wyatt Wilharm in the fourth. Mayville State tied the game with two runs in the fifth, but Dickinson State answered in the bottom half. Jace Buchanan drove in a run with a single, Ty Farwell followed with an RBI single and Luis Rodriguez added an RBI double to make it 5-2.

Mayville State took a 6-5 lead in the sixth on a grand slam, but Dickinson State responded in the bottom of the inning. Jadyn Roberts and Ramon Teran opened with singles, Buchanan tied the game with an RBI single and Farwell delivered a two-run single to put DSU in front. An error later in the inning brought home an additional run.

Sawyer Bryner set a Dickinson State single-game record with seven stolen bases as part of 11 total steals in the opener. Farwell finished with three RBIs, while Buchanan added two.

Mason Lunzman started and allowed two unearned runs over five innings. Cooper VanLuchene earned the win in relief, and Trent Chavez recorded the save.

Game 2

Dickinson State completed the sweep with a 13-6 win, adding nine more stolen bases in the second game.

The Blue Hawks scored four runs in the first inning and added two in the second to build a 6-0 lead. Farwell drove in a run with a single, Rodriguez added an RBI groundout and Dokes contributed an RBI single in the first. Ramon Teran and Buchanan each drove in a run in the second.

Mayville State cut the deficit to 6-5 with a five-run third inning, but Dickinson State regained control in the sixth. The Blue Hawks scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by Teran's RBI single and Buchanan's two-run home run.

Farwell added a two-run home run in the eighth to extend the lead. Teran finished with four hits and four runs scored, while Buchanan and Farwell each drove in three runs.

Tate Williams earned the win after pitching five innings. Dickinson State's bullpen combined to close out the game and complete the sweep.
