Box Score 2 TUCSON, AZ— Dickinson State softball picked up a pair of wins on Saturday at Lower Lincoln Park, defeating William Penn University 8-2 before rallying past Northwestern College (Iowa) 11-6.
The Blue Hawks were led by a big offensive day from Brooke Lijewski, who homered in both games and drove in six total runs.
Dickinson State struck early against William Penn and never looked back in the opening game.
Celina Wilharm put the Blue Hawks on the board in the first inning with an RBI single. Dickinson State extended the lead in the second when Stocktyn Stevenson drew a bases-loaded walk and Aly Farrington followed with a two-run double.
The Blue Hawks continued to control the game from there, adding insurance in the seventh inning when Lijewski launched a two-run home run to center field.
Reagan King earned the complete-game win in the circle. She allowed eight hits and two runs, both unearned, while walking one batter over seven innings.
Wilharm and Farrington each collected two hits to lead the Dickinson State offense, while Farrington and Lijewski drove in two runs apiece. Wilharm also added two stolen bases.
Dickinson State showed resilience in the second game, rallying from an early five-run deficit to defeat Northwestern.
Northwestern jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Alli Koontz.
The Blue Hawks quickly answered. Lijewski cut into the deficit with a three-run home run in the first inning, and Dickinson State erupted for six runs in the second to take control of the game. The key hit in the inning came from Viennah Meyer, who launched a three-run home run to give Dickinson State the lead.
Ava Jahner earned the win in relief, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings while allowing four hits and striking out five. Reannan Butler started the game for Dickinson State, and Hope Fath and Reagan King also made relief appearances.
Dickinson State finished with 12 hits in the game. Wilharm, Kiley Hubby and Octavia Meyer each recorded two hits.
Dickinson State will face Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 10:00am MT and Indiana Tech at 12:00pm MT in Tucson.
