Blue Hawks use 14-run inning for the weekend sweep against Valley City

DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State used a dominant sixth inning in game one and timely hitting in game two to complete a doubleheader sweep of Valley City State on Saturday at Bravera Field, winning 15-2 and 7-5. 

In the opener, Dickinson State (25-12) broke open a close game with a 14-run sixth inning to secure a run-rule victory. 

After three scoreless innings, the Blue Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the third. Allyson Farrington reached and advanced into scoring position before Celina Wilharm drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt. 

Valley City State responded with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-1 lead. 

Dickinson State answered in the sixth inning with its most productive frame of the season. The Blue Hawks sent multiple batters to the plate and capitalized on hits, walks, and defensive miscues to score 14 runs. 

Brooke Lijewski started the rally with a two-run single to give Dickinson State the lead. Octavia Meyer followed with a two-run double, and Viennah Meyer added a two-run double later in the inning. Allyson Farrington recorded multiple hits in the frame, including an RBI single, while Kiley Hubby and Lijewski each added additional RBIs as the lead extended to 15-2. 

Dickinson State totaled 11 hits in the game, with Farrington leading the way with three hits and two RBIs. Viennah Meyer recorded two doubles and three RBIs, while Octavia Meyer drove in three runs. 

Ava Jahner earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings while striking out five. 

In game two, Dickinson State (26-12) built an early lead and held off a late push from Valley City State to complete the sweep. 

The Blue Hawks scored four runs in the first inning. Brooke Lijewski delivered a two-run double to open the scoring, and Viennah Meyer followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 4-0. 

Valley City State answered with two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the second and third innings to tie the game at 4-4. 

Dickinson State regained control in the fourth inning. Stocktyn Stevenson delivered an RBI single, and Wilharm added a sacrifice fly. Stevenson later scored on an error to push the lead to 7-4. 

Valley City State added a run in the fifth inning, but Dickinson State limited further damage over the final two innings. 

Reagan King earned the win in relief, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing two runs while striking out three. She entered in the second inning and stabilized the game after early pressure from Valley City State. 

Lijewski led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Viennah Meyer added three hits and two RBIs. Stevenson contributed two hits and an RBI as Dickinson State finished with 12 hits in the game. 

Dickinson State will continue conference play this Wednesday, April 15th against Bismarck State College in Bismarck, N.D. First game of the double header will start at 1:00pm.
