BISMARCK, N.D. — Dickinson State extended its winning streak to 12 games Wednesday with a Frontier Conference doubleheader sweep of Bismarck State, winning 9-5 in Game 1 and 12-5 in Game 2 at Scheels Field. The victories also marked career wins No. 500 and 501 for head coach Kristen Fleury, who improved to 501-296 overall. Dickinson State moved to 29-12 on the season.
Game 1
Dickinson State scored four runs in the first inning and held off Bismarck State for a 9-5 win in the opener. The Blue Hawks totaled 14 hits and built a multi-run lead early, going in front 5-1 after two innings and 7-2 after three.
Celina Wilharm led the offense, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Brooke Lijewski added two extra-base hits, finishing 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, an RBI and a walk. Octavia Meyer recorded two hits and two runs, while Allyson Farrington went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Viennah Meyer drove in two runs with a third-inning double.
The Blue Hawks opened with four runs on four hits in the first inning. Lijewski tripled to score Wilharm for the game's first run, Hubby followed with an RBI single, and Octavia Meyer delivered an RBI double before scoring on an error to extend the lead to 4-0.
Dickinson State added a run in the second on Wilharm's RBI single, then extended the margin in the third when Viennah Meyer doubled home two runs following an error that kept the inning alive.
Bismarck State scored in each of the first five innings to stay within reach. Grace Grimm went 4 for 4 with two RBIs, and Lexi Wesson added three hits, including a solo home run.
Hope Fath earned the win, allowing four runs over 3 2/3 innings. Reannan Butler picked up the save with 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one unearned run and striking out three to close out the game.
Dickinson State added insurance in the sixth on Wilharm's RBI double and in the seventh on an RBI single by Stocktyn Stevenson to account for the final score.
Game 2
Dickinson State completed the sweep with a 12-5 win in Game 2, using a seven-run sixth inning to break open a tie game. The Blue Hawks finished with 16 hits in the nightcap.
Brooke Lijewski led Dickinson State with three hits and three RBIs, while Wilharm added two hits and three RBIs. Octavia Meyer recorded two hits and two RBIs, and Viennah Meyer finished with two doubles and two RBIs. Stevenson, Hubby and Izzy Kelly each contributed two hits.
After trailing 1-0, Dickinson State scored four runs in the third inning. Wilharm tied the game with an RBI single, Lijewski followed with a two-run double, and Octavia Meyer added an RBI single to make it 4-1.
The Blue Hawks extended the lead to 5-1 in the fifth before Bismarck State tied the game with four runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a three-run home run from Jordyn Marcoux.
Dickinson State answered in the sixth inning with seven runs on seven hits. Baylee Berg drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly, Stevenson added an RBI single, and Wilharm delivered a two-run double. Lijewski followed with an RBI single, and Viennah Meyer capped the inning with a two-run double to push the lead to 12-5.
Ava Jahner earned the win after allowing five runs over five innings. Reagan King closed the final two innings, allowing one hit and no runs to secure the victory.
Dickinson State totaled 25 runs on 30 hits across the doubleheader and extended its winning streak to 12 games while securing the milestone victories for Fleury.
