DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State used timely hitting and strong pitching performances to sweep Dakota State in a Frontier Conference doubleheader on Sunday at Bravera Field.
Game One: Dickinson State 8, Dakota State 3
Dickinson State (29-12) responded to an early deficit and controlled the game behind a complete effort from Reagan King in the circle.
Dakota State took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single, but the Blue Hawks answered in the second. Kiley Hubby singled to start the inning, and Jaydin Sabol followed with a base hit. Viennah Meyer drove in a run with a single, and Allyson Farrington added an RBI single to tie the game. Izzy Kelly followed with a groundout that brought in the go-ahead run, giving Dickinson State a 3-2 lead.
Dickinson State added two runs in the fourth inning. Octavia Meyer doubled to open the frame, and Viennah Meyer followed with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 5-2.
The Blue Hawks continued to add insurance in the sixth. Sabol drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Viennah Meyer added another RBI on a groundout, and Stocktyn Stevenson capped the inning with an RBI single to push the lead to 8-2.
Dakota State added a run in the seventh, but Dickinson State limited further damage.
King earned the win, allowing three runs on four hits over seven innings while striking out five. Viennah Meyer led the offense with four RBIs, while Farrington and Stevenson each recorded two hits.
Game Two: Dickinson State 10, Dakota State 1 (5 inn.)
Dickinson State (30-12) used steady offense across multiple innings to secure a run-rule victory.
The Blue Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Stocktyn Stevenson scored on an RBI double by Brooke Lijewski. Dickinson State added a run in the second on a sacrifice fly from Viennah Meyer.
Dakota State cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third inning on a sacrifice fly, but Dickinson State responded in the bottom half. Stevenson reached base and later scored, and Kiley Hubby added an RBI on a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 3-1.
Dickinson State broke the game open in the fourth inning. After an error allowed a run to score, Stevenson delivered a two-run home run to extend the lead to 6-1.
The Blue Hawks closed the game in the fifth with four runs. Hubby tripled and scored on a single from Octavia Meyer, and Allyson Farrington delivered a two-run double to cap the scoring at 10-1.
Hope Fath earned the win, allowing one run on four hits over four innings while striking out three. Ava Jahner worked a scoreless fifth inning in relief.
Stevenson led the offense with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Farrington added two RBIs. Dickinson State finished with seven hits and took advantage of multiple Dakota State errors.
Dickinson State will continue conference play Monday, April 20th. First game of the double header starts at 12:00pm.
