BISMARCK, N.D. — Dickinson State erased an early deficit and scored 11 unanswered runs to defeat Bismarck State 14-4 on Tuesday at Haaland Field.
Trailing 4-3 after three innings, the Blue Hawks responded immediately and controlled the remainder of the game to improve to 19-20 on the season.
Dickinson State struck first in the opening inning when Ramon Teran doubled and later scored on an RBI single by Luis Rodriguez. The Blue Hawks added two more runs in the second inning behind a two-run double from Jadyn Roberts, taking a 3-0 lead.
Bismarck State answered with two runs in the second inning and took the lead in the third. A two-run home run by Karsen Haney gave the Mystics a 4-3 advantage heading into the fourth inning.
From that point, Dickinson State took over.
The Blue Hawks tied the game in the fourth inning on a solo home run from Moses Dokes. Later in the inning, Jaden Salazar scored to give Dickinson State a 5-4 lead, one they would not relinquish.
Dickinson State added three more runs in the fifth inning. Wyatt Wilharm drove in one with a single, and Michael Feralio followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 8-4.
The Blue Hawks broke the game open in the seventh, scoring six runs. Dickinson State took advantage of walks and wild pitches before Teran delivered a two-run single. Wilharm added a two-run single later in the inning as the lead grew to 14-4.
In total, Dickinson State scored 11 unanswered runs after falling behind in the third inning.
Teran finished 2 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs, while Wilharm went 2 for 5 with three RBIs. Dokes homered and scored three times, and Feralio reached base four times with three walks and two RBIs. Roberts added a two-run double as part of a 10-hit effort for Dickinson State.
On the mound, Jerry Santiago Jr. earned the win with three scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and striking out three. He took over in the fourth inning and helped stabilize the game after Bismarck State had taken the lead. Trent Chavez closed out the final inning.
Starter Dominic Phillips allowed four runs, three earned, over three innings. After the third inning, Dickinson State pitching held Bismarck State scoreless the rest of the way.
