Blue Hawks take two from BSC on Sunday

DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State completed a Sunday sweep of Bismarck State in Frontier Conference baseball, taking the opener 9-3 before finishing the doubleheader with an 11-5 win at DCB&T Ballpark.

The Blue Hawks moved to 21-20 overall and 8-10 in conference play after the two wins. Bismarck State fell to 18-20 overall and 6-12 in the Frontier.

Game 1

Dickinson State used a seven-inning complete game from Mason Lunzman and broke the opener open with a five-run sixth inning in a 9-3 win.

Lunzman allowed five hits, three runs and no walks while striking out five over 7.0 innings. He faced 27 batters and threw 83 pitches.

Bismarck State took a 1-0 lead in the second when Karsen Haney hit a solo home run to left. Dickinson State answered in the third without a hit-producing play. Ramon Teran opened the inning with a double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored when Sawyer Bryner stole second and Teran stole home to tie the game at 1-1.

The Blue Hawks took control in the fourth. Jaden Salazar reached on a hit by pitch, stole second and scored on Michael Feralio's RBI single to right. Later in the inning, Ramon Teran reached on a fielder's choice that brought home Feralio, and Luis Rodriguez added a sacrifice fly to left that scored Kadin Finders for a 4-1 lead.

Dickinson State added to the margin in the sixth after Bismarck State cut the deficit to one run. The Mystics opened the top of the inning with a single from Pacey Phillips and a two-run home run by Bryson Mohs to make it 4-3.

The Blue Hawks responded with their biggest inning of the game. Salazar led off the bottom half with a solo home run to left. Finders and Jadyn Roberts each drew a walk, and Teran followed with another free pass after a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Rodriguez then singled to center to score Finders and push the lead to 6-3.

Ty Farwell delivered the key hit of the inning, a two-run double to right that scored Teran and Roberts while Rodriguez moved to third. Moses Dokes followed with a sacrifice fly to center to bring home Rodriguez and cap the five-run inning at 9-3.

Salazar finished 2 for 2 with two runs scored, a double, a home run and an RBI. Farwell went 1 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a walk. Rodriguez drove in two runs, and Teran scored twice and added an RBI. Feralio, Finders and Roberts each scored once as Dickinson State finished with seven hits and drew four walks.

Bismarck State got two hits from Brayden Bunnell and a two-run home run from Mohs, but Lunzman retired six of the final seven batters and did not allow a walk.

Game 2

Dickinson State carried its momentum into the second game and built an early lead on the way to an 11-5 win.

The Blue Hawks scored in each of the first six innings and finished with 15 hits. Ty Farwell led the offense with four RBIs, going 2 for 5 with a triple and a three-run home run. Dickinson State also got a two-run home run from Jadyn Roberts in the second inning and a steady run of production throughout the lineup.

The Blue Hawks scored first in the opening inning. Teran doubled, Luis Rodriguez singled and Dokes followed with an RBI single to left for a 1-0 lead.

Dickinson State added two more runs in the second. Michael Feralio doubled, Kadin Finders singled and Roberts sent a two-run home run to left to make it 3-0.

Bismarck State answered in the third. Greyson Dockter scored on a single by Bryson Mohs, and Phillips came home on a sacrifice fly by Kaeden Wilcox to trim the deficit to 3-2.

The Blue Hawks got both runs back in the bottom of the third. Rodriguez singled and scored on Farwell's RBI triple to right. After Sawyer Bryner entered as a pinch runner, Dokes grounded out to shortstop to score Bryner and extend the lead to 5-2.

Dickinson State created more separation in the fourth. Teran singled and Jack Price doubled before Rodriguez reached on a single. Farwell then drove a 2-0 pitch to center for a three-run home run, pushing the score to 8-2.

The Blue Hawks scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth. In the fifth, Jaden Salazar walked and later scored on Feralio's RBI double, and Rodriguez added another RBI single to score Feralio. In the sixth, Jacob McIntyre scored on Salazar's sacrifice fly for an 11-2 advantage.

Rodriguez went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Teran was 2 for 2 with a double and a run. Dokes had two hits and two RBIs, while Salazar, Feralio, Wilharm and Finders each added at least one hit. Roberts scored twice and drove in two runs.

Tate Williams started for Dickinson State and worked 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Cooper Vanluchene followed with 2.0 scoreless innings. Jerry Santiago Jr. allowed one run in the eighth, and Trent Chavez worked the ninth.

Bismarck State scored once in the eighth on Evan Fuchs' RBI single and added two runs in the ninth, one on a Dickinson State error and one on Brayden Bunnell's RBI single. The Mystics finished with 13 hits, including three from Wilcox and three from Bunnell, but Dickinson State's early offense kept control of the game.
