Dickinson State earns split with Bismarck State in Monday conference doubleheader

DICKINSON, N.D. - Dickinson State split a Frontier Conference baseball doubleheader with Bismarck State on Monday at DCB&T Ballpark, taking the opener 20-7 before falling 7-4 in the second game.

Game 1

Dickinson State broke the opener open with seven runs in the fourth inning and eight more in the fifth to secure a 20-7 win in the scheduled seven-inning game.

The Blue Hawks finished with 21 hits and scored in four of their six offensive innings. Dickinson State led 3-0 after the first, answered Bismarck State's two-run second with two more runs in the bottom half, then took control for good in the middle innings.

Luis Rodriguez went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Ty Farwell was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Wyatt Wilharm finished 3 for 3 with three runs scored, two RBIs, one double, one home run, one walk and one stolen base. Jaden Salazar added three hits and two RBIs, while Jerry Santiago Jr. went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a walk. Kadin Finders drove in two runs and stole two bases, and Jadyn Roberts hit a solo home run and added two RBIs.

Dickinson State totaled 11 stolen bases in the opener.

The Blue Hawks scored three times in the first. Farwell brought home Rodriguez with an RBI single, Sawyer Bryner stole home, and Santiago added an RBI single later in the inning.

Bismarck State pulled within 3-2 on Greyson Dockter's two-run home run in the second, but Dickinson State answered immediately. Roberts homered in the bottom of the inning, and Wilharm added an RBI single for a 5-2 lead.

The visitors cut the margin to 5-4 in the fourth, but Dickinson State responded with seven runs in the bottom half. Wilharm, Michael Feralio, Finders, Roberts and Farwell all delivered RBIs during the inning.

The Blue Hawks then added eight runs in the fifth. Salazar, Santiago, Rodriguez, Farwell and Dokes each had RBI hits in the frame.

Patrick Dietz started for Dickinson State and worked four innings. Noah Aliff followed with 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Bismarck State scored three unearned runs in the seventh against Logan Smith who covered the final two outs.

Game 2

Bismarck State scored four runs in the first inning and held off Dickinson State for a 7-4 win in the nightcap.

Dickinson State collected nine hits but was limited to one earned run. Rodriguez led the Blue Hawks by going 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored. Salazar finished 3 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored. Farwell and Dokes added one hit each.

Bismarck State used a four-run first to set the tone. Karsen Haney hit an RBI double, Bryson Mohs followed with a two-run single, and another run scored on a Dickinson State error.

The Blue Hawks answered with three runs in the third. Jacob McIntyre scored on a Bismarck State error, Salazar added an RBI single, and Jerry Santiago Jr. reached on an error that brought home another run to make it 4-3.

Bismarck State added single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. Kaeden Wilcox hit a solo home run in the fourth. Two more runs were unearned in the fifth and seventh.

Dickinson State scored its final run in the seventh when Rodriguez came home on an error.

Mason Manning gave Dickinson State four innings of relief and allowed two runs, one earned, on one hit. Noah Aliff, Brandon Hegedus, Cooper Vanluchene and Trent Chavez also pitched in relief.
