Dickinson State shows strong performances at the Blue Hawk Games

DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State turned in a strong all-around performance on its home track at the Blue Hawk Games, recording multiple event victories, NAIA qualifying marks and personal-best performances across both the men's and women's competitions. 

The Blue Hawks were led by a standout performance from Caleb Sarsland in the distance events, as he captured the 10,000 meters title in 30:37.48, a personal-best mark that ranks No. 7 in the NAIA this season. Brady Hoverson added a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:25.02), while Jacob Littleton placed third in the 5,000 meters (17:20.25). 

On the track, Mustafa Taylor highlighted the sprint group with a first-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 21.46 to improve to No. 34 in the NAIA rankings. He also added a third-place finish in the 100 meters (10.71). Joseph Yadon contributed points in both events, placing seventh in the 100 and fifth in the 200. 

The hurdles group delivered key scoring performances, led by Cole Kukuchka, who won the 110-meter hurdles in a personal-best 15.74. Mathew Hansen followed with a runner-up finish (16.20), giving Dickinson State a 1-2 finish in the event. In the 400-meter hurdles, Maximus Kadrmas recorded a first-place finish with a personal-best 54.93, a mark that ranks No. 49 in the NAIA. Hansen added a third-place finish, while Kukuchka placed fifth. 

In the middle distances, Kyler Holinde captured the 1,500 meters title in a personal-best 4:05.92 and added a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters (2:00.25). Quentin Lewis (50.15) and Logan Borden (50.96) placed second and third, respectively, in the 400 meters. 

Field events were another area of strength for Dickinson State. Kohbe Smith won the triple jump with a mark of 14.68 meters, moving to No. 12 nationally, and added a fifth-place finish in the long jump. Ty Leischner secured the pole vault title with a clearance of 4.80 meters, ranking No. 16 in the NAIA, while also placing second in the long jump (6.93m). Adrien Calderon and Holden Will added second- and third-place finishes in the pole vault. 

In the throws, Dylan Dahlgren led the way with a victory in the hammer throw (58.34m) and a runner-up finish in the discus (49.68m). Ty Bennick placed second in the hammer and added a runner-up finish in the shot put, while Maxx Lee contributed multiple scoring efforts, including a third-place finish in the hammer. 

On the women's side, Dickinson State was led by dominant performances in the throws and combined events. Kori Nagel captured titles in both the shot put (14.41m) and discus (46.50m), recording top-10 NAIA marks in each event. Chloe Gunderson added runner-up finishes in both events and a victory in the hammer throw (51.00m), while Alician Parks and Rebecca Eacker contributed additional scoring efforts. 

In the javelin, Codi Nagle recorded a first-place finish with a personal-best throw of 45.86 meters, the top mark in the NAIA this season. Mya Sheldon added a third-place finish. 

On the track, Mia Handran led a strong showing in the 800 meters, winning in 2:22.87, while Loli Jarrett and Natalie Lile placed third and fourth, respectively. The Blue Hawks also captured the 4x800-meter relay title, as Jarrett, Lauren Taylor, Lile and Handran combined to post a time of 9:42.23, ranking No. 10 nationally. 

In the sprints, Elsie Wilson placed third in the 100 meters (12.99), while Jaycee Hurley and Jane Harrison followed in fourth and fifth. Mady Willis added a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a personal-best 1:00.56. 

The combined events group also produced strong performances, highlighted by Adarra Hagelund, who recorded the top heptathlon high jump mark in the NAIA this season (1.76m). Karson Tempel and Abby Talkington also contributed across multiple events. 

Overall, Dickinson State recorded a balanced performance across all event groups, using its depth to secure multiple event titles, national qualifying marks and personal-best efforts in front of a home crowd.
